Mimic

First Mission

To be safe, I went back to the cafe thirty minutes before Robin was expecting me to be there. As I walked into the Gotham Cafe, I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the raven haired teen sitting at a booth, sipping his coffee. Robin stared at me as I slowly made my way to the booth he was at.

"Hey," I said, trying to sound confident. A small smirk danced on his face.

"Why weren't you here? Where's your tutor?" he asked in a curious voice. Part of me was glad that Robin was talking in his light tone. He was usually pretty humorous and friendly, though I felt that there was a piece of him that was dark and serious. Everyone has a dark side. And, wishful thinking here, everyone has a light side too.

"I was at her house," I lied easily.

"How come?" Robin raised his eyebrows.

"Because," I sighed, trying to act like I was harboring a secret, "She wants to adopt me."

"Adopt you," Robin just said, sounding almost dumbfounded. 

"I accidentally let it slip that my parents," I paused for the act, "You know. Are dead. And she asked where I was staying, so I told her at a friends house. And then she said that I should have a real home, with her."

"Look, Alex," Robin said gently, "That's great. Amazing, really. But it would be best for you to stay at Mount Justice, with us. And you really don't know this lady, and we don't know her either. And it would be difficult to sneak out to go on missions."

"But-" I started.

"Alex, I know-"

"What do you know?" I suddenly burst. "Robin, please. I think that it would be better if I stayed with Ms. King. She could tutor me at her house. You wouldn't really have to babysit me. "

"Bats and I will look into it. I promise," Robin told me. He stood up from the booth. "And I know more than you think."

Robin started walking away, and I quickly got out of the booth and followed him. The walk back to the zeta tube was a silent one.

"It's here!" M'gann squealed at me when Robin and I entered Mount Justice.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Your suit came today," Zatanna quickly filled in.

"We already took it out of the package," Artemis told me, "Hope you don't mind."

"It's fine," I answered.

"Hey, do you know where Wally is?" Robin asked the girls.

"Watching TV and eating all of the Oreos," Rocket told him.

"Wally!" Robin called as he ran to where Wally was. "Remember the last time you ate the whole pack of Oreos? That did not end well."

"What happens when you eat too many Oreos?" M'gann asked, voicing the very question I was wondering too.

"I guess we're about to find out," Artemis said and we all laughed.

"Let's go see you in your suit," Zatanna suggested. I nodded.

"We put in on your bed," M'gann told me.

"Thanks," I told her.

"We'll wait for you here," Rocket said.

I started walking to my room. When I got there I closed the door and changed into my new suit. After changing, I went back to the main room. The girl's faces immediately lit up.

"Girl you look amazing," Rocket told me.

"Awesome," Artemis commented.

"It's great," Zatanna said.

"It's perfect!" M'gann smiled hugely.

"Thanks, guys," I smiled.

"Batman. B02," the computer called out, signaling that Batman was coming to Mount Justice. Sure enough, a moment later the Dark Knight stood before the girls and me. 

"New mission?" Artemis asked. Batman nodded but said no more until Wally, Robin, Kaldur, and Superboy joined us. Robin and Wally had changed into their superhero suits, While Kaldur and Superboy seemed to always be in theirs. 

"We suspect that we have found out where Cadmus is holding the original Roy Harper," Batman started out. I guess he must have seen my confused face because he then said "Roy is an ally of ours who has been captured for almost four years now. A clone of him was made so we wouldn't know he was missing. About ten months ago we found out that the Roy we know is a clone. Ever since then we have been trying to find the original Roy."

"Is Red Arrow coming on this mission?" Wally asked excitably. 

"No," Batman answered, "We have lost contact with Red Arrow, so we don't know where he is."

"Where is the location of our mission?" Kaldur asked.

"Nepal," Batman said, and a holographic map appeared behind him, honing in on where we needed to go. "There should be a Cadmus compound around the coordinates I'm sending you. Search the compound. Try not to draw attention to yourselves. Call me if you find Roy."

And with that, we all rushed off to the bio-ship. My first mission, I thought to myself excitably.
