"You're late," Ladybug snapped as Wisp blocked a feathery attack from Mr. Pigeon, jumping back to stand by the edge of the building.
"I'm right on time," Wisp called back, "it's just the villain is early this time."
"Without you, it was a cat-astrophy!" Cat Noir joked. Ladybug glared at him and Wisp glared at her. The poor cat looked between the two superheroes in confusion.
"The world shall be fair to pigeons!" the supervillain cried shrilly, waving a hand and sending twenty more pigeons down to attack them. Wisp dodged one attack, using the shield of the turtle to deflect pigeons as they rained down upon her.
"How many times is this guy gonna get akamatized!?" she yelled in annoyance. "What is this, the tenth time?"
"Twenty-first for us," Ladybug informed her, swinging her yo-yo in a circle to block sharp feathers from slicing her face.
"Listen, can I just go on my own to beat this guy?" Wisp complained. "I could do it if you two weren't slowing me down."
"No! We're working together!" Ladybug thought for a moment, then added, "besides, you couldn't beat him on your own, I bet."
Oh? So that's how it is. "I see." Wisp grinned, leaping forward, using her shield to block the attacks. "Then I'll just have to prove it to you!"
"Wait! Wisp!"
The superhero didn't look back as she cleared the pigeons and changed to Ladybug's yo-yo, sending it out to whack mr. Pigeon off his pigeon pile. As he fell she caught him, breaking the whistle around his neck in one fluid movement.
"Fabricate." She pointed to the ground and a glowing trampoline appeared. Satisfied, she let the man go and he fell, bouncing safely to the ground. Wisp caught the Akuma gently by one wing and then jumped back down to hand it to Ladybug. "There. Proof."
Ladybug stared at her in shock, then glared. "What was that? You can't just go running off like that! What if you'd gotten hurt?"
"Okay, mom..." Wisp sighed in exasperation. "I caught him so that's the problem?"
"The problem is that you didn't listen to Ladybug, our leader," Cat Noir snapped, stalking forward. "You beat him this time, but you can't do that again. It's too dangerous."
"Jeez, dad..." Wisp knew it was a terrible idea but she grinned and went on anyway. "Oops, sorry. That makes you sound like an old married couple!"
Both superheroes flushed, one in anger and the other in the opposite of that. "What?" they both yelled at the same time, taking a step back.
"We are not. We-we—" Ladybug shook her head vehemently. "Why would you say that!?"
"M'lady..." her Kitty stared at the red and black superhero with a hurt expression. "Don't be so harsh..."
"What?" Now Ladybug turned her fury on the cat. "You have a problem with that? I've already told you I like someone else!"
I knew it, so she does like someone else. That's gotta hurt. I know how unrequited love feels.
Wait, isn't this my opportunity to see if I can change how few he feels about me? Right now, I could answer the question that's been plaguing the back of my mind for weeks!
"Ladybug, don't be so quick," she murmured softly, her heart pounding. "Cat Noir may have other love interests besides you. Have you ever thought about that?"
"What?" Cat Noir stared at her. "What are you talking about?"
Here we go... "I'm talking about that girl you like to hang out with, on her rooftop. What's her name, Naya?"
"Naya?" Ladybug glanced at Cat Noir in surprise. "I knew there was more going on there! So you've been meeting each other in secret from me!? What have you told her?"
"N-Nothing! Nothing, I swear!" He backed up, holding his hands up in self defense. "We're just friends!"
"Oh come on!" Wisp snapped with a sigh. "You've got to have at least a few feelings for her by this point, right? You meet each other every night, as far as I've seen!"
"And how would you know?" He snapped back. "Have you been spying on me?"
"I wouldn't call it spying, per say..." she looked away, not sure what to say. I'd call it I was there with you!
"Well..." he glanced towards Ladybug, then shook his head. "No! I told you, we're just friends! So get out of my personal business!"
And with that he extended his stick and hopped away from rooftop to rooftop.
"I've got to go too," Wisp muttered, turning her trampoline into Ladybug's yo-yo and starting to swing it. "Take care of pidgin man there." Then she swung away, back towards her house, tears finally streaming down her face.
