It was a twenty minute walk to school but Naya cut it down to fifteen by speed walking all the way there. She was used to running and working out since she'd joined a gym with her friends back in Canada, so now this didn't even leave her out of breath.
"Good morning Naya," a voice called and she looked over to see Adrien climbing out of his car.
"Um...good morning!"
Why is he saying good morning to me? We barely know each other.
She put on a bright smile that said I wasn't crying this morning and everything's fine! and he frowned.
"Are you okay?"
"What?"
Did I mess up my smile?
"Y-Yeah. I'm fine. Why do you ask?"
"O-oh!" He scratched his neck awkwardly. "No reason. Just wondering."
"Everything is great!" She forced her smile even wider and he nodded, still looking suspicious.
"Naya!" Alya called as she walked close from the opposite direction as she'd come. "Good morning!"
"Morning!" she called, waving to Adrien and jogging over to the brunette. "How's it going?"
"Good." Alya smiled. "Marinette's going to hate you for getting so close to Adrien, you know."
"That's the thing, he's acting like we know each other when we've only talked, like, once." Naya shrugged. "It's a little weird but I don't mind it. I see why Marinette likes him."
Alya laughed. "Are you competition?"
She shook her head. "No way. I've already got my own unattainable love interest here in Paris."
"O. M. Gosh. Who!? Spill it girl!" Alya cried.
"Lower your voice!" Naya shushed her hurriedly. "I don't want the whole school knowing about my love life! Besides, this name is never leaving my lips. You're lucky I even told you."
Alya laughed again and Naya smiled, watching her. For some reason it didn't feel fake, this smile, just like the one from the night before. It was so nice, not having to fake her smiles.
The bell rang, making both of them jump.
"Where's Marinette?" Naya cried. "Is she going to be late?"
"Don't worry." Aura patted her on the back, smiling tiredly. "This is a pretty normal occurrence. She'll get here eventually."
"Oh, okay."
Naya shrugged and they started into the building for another day of school.
