Chapter 15

After an amazing night of performing me and the guys went out and celebrated with the guys of One Direction.

Well at least a few of them.

Niall easily offered up to hang out with us, Harry soon followed, ans Louis and Michael where like moths to a flame with each other.

Which was probably not a good thing...

As we walked backstage, Louis and Michael were whispering and laughing and I knew something bad was going to happen.

We walked through hallways and I split from the rest of the group to make a call.

The guys all followed Luke and I went into an extension hallway that was empty as I called Lauren.

"Hey Ashton." She picked up after a few rings.

"Hey Lauren, any news?"I asked hoping to hear something good.

"No progress..." She said quietly, "I'm sorry."

"Have the doctors said there's anything we can do?".

"Well you can't since you're thousands of miles away, but they told us we could come and talk to her and play old videos or new ones."

"What is that supposed to do?" I asked curiously.

"Well from my understanding it helps the brain not to shut down and it can help keep voices of people and memories present, I guess. It's hard  explain but that's what I was told basically."

I nodded even though she couldn't see me.

"So, me and James come in everyday when we can and just ramble on or play your music videos or play your new keeks, etc. Just little things to hold onto her..."

I smiled, "God if only she could've been there tonight..."

"I'm sure if she could've been, she wouldn't have missed it for the world."

"It was so weird, as we rehearsed and then played the actually show, it was like...I could physically see her and picture her there and it was amazing. Like my heart hurt knowing it wasn't real but it gave me a piece of mind."

She chuckled softly, "I get those sometimes too, but I think that's strange because she was actually going to come out and surprise you at your first concert. She bought us all tickets and everything. We were going to fly out yesterday and get there this morning and then be there for the show."

I felt my heart go through Almost every emotion at one time.

Happiness that she was going to surprise me and be there.

Anger that it was taken away from us.

Sadness that I couldn't have done more to postpone the show or protect her.

And so on.

"Ashton?" She asked since I hadn't spoken in about a minute.

"I'm here." I finally spoke.

"Alright, well I'll keep you updated but I'm at the hospital right now."

"Alright, let me post something for you to play for her." I said quickly and hung up as I recorded a keek.

I sung the chorus of beside you and then smiled saying 'I love you Sam, stay strong for me. I love you.' and then blew a kiss at the camera.

I posted it and Lauren sent me a video.

I opened it and it was Sam laying there, still lifeless, still injured, she looked better than she had when it first happened, but it was still bad.

James was sitting in the chair next to Sam and be started speaking gently, "Hey Sam, you got a special video from Ashton."

He then started playing my video and I kid you not as soon as my voice started on the video her heart rate increased and Lauren zoomed in on the heart rate.

"Oh my God this is so cute, I can't even." She said as I could tell through her voice that she was crying.

James smiled and looked over and one the video stopped her heart rate went down.

So James played it again.

And sure enough, her heart rate went up.

I was smiling like an idiot and crying at the same time.

I missed her.

I loved her.

I needed her.

Even though she wasn't truly herself, did she miss me?

Did she still love me?

Did she need Me?

I'd like to think she did, but I was still uncertain.

If I'd been away long enough...would she forget me?

Would she ever wake up?

All questions I'd soon enough find the answers to.

*Weeks Later*

"What's wrong with Calum?" I asked on keek as I showed Calum with his head in a blue bin.

"Kick him while he's down!" We yelled and started kicking the bin as Calum came out and we all laughed.

Calum picked up the bin and dropped it as he walked over to me and pushed me slightly causing me to spill my coffee.

"Ow Fuck." I laughed as we prepared for the next days show.

*Weeks Later*

We worked on new music and had an entire album ready to be released after this tour and we were debating on one song called Teenage Queen and energy gave a little sneak peek of Luke, Michael, and Calum dancing to it on keek but sure enough it didn't make our cut for this first album.

I always wondered if she'd be proud of what we've done.

I knew she would, but I wish she was here to see it all herself.

"Hi we're 5 Seconds of Summer and we're going to eat as food inspired by man verses food."

Sure enough we did eat food and we couldn't even finish all of it.

"I have a meat ache." I said as I laid out on the booth.

Just one of the many crazy experiences we had on film in America.

*One Month Later*

We were in the middle of a concert when I saw my phone go off with a text.

I ignored it, because this was our last concert before we had a brief tour intermission.

"Goodnight ladies and gentlemen!" We all yelled simultaneously as the lights went out and people screamed and we all ran off stage.

"Sick show!"

"Did anyone hear when I hit the wrong chord on the bass?"

Laughs.

Carefree.

Happiness.

I looked at my phone and it was a text from Lauren.

'CALL ME IMMEDIATELY!!'

I dialed her number and called and she answered within seconds.

"Hey Lauren what's-" I start casually and she cut me off not a second to spare.

She spoke the words I so desperately wanted to hear for months.

They were two simple words that almost made me scream for joy but want to break my phone for not being there.

She simply said.

"She's awake..."
