Chapter 18

I stared at her blankly.

What the hell did she just say?

I flew all the way from the damn states for her!

I stayed on the phone with Lauren for hours!

And most importantly, oh yeah, I'm her boyfriend!!

And she doesn't enter acknowledge me?!

She says his name?!

I couldn't take it.

I walked out of the room with all the guys and Lauren following me.

"Ashton wait!" Luke yelled eventually catching up.

I stopped and turned to face him, "You wanted her back...Well congratulations mate...you got her..." I said tears pouring over my eyes.

He was speechless.

I turned, walking off and knew everything I'd done for her, was for nothing.

Luke's POV

I stood there and watched Ashton walk down the hallway and disappear.

How could he say that?

It's not like I told her, 'Hey you know how we could make Ashton want to kill me?'

I looked at Lauren and she nodded knowing what I was saying without having to say anything.

She walked off after Ashton and I walked off back to Sam.

The guys all followed speechless, as we entered the room.

James was talking to a nurse and she looked over at me still laying down.

"Where'd you go?" She asked quietly as we all came closer.

"We um...had to take care of some stuff." I said looking at Calum who shrugged softly.

"Who are your friends?" She asked looking at Calum and Mikey.

Michael laughed softly, "Funny babe, come on seriously."

Calum stayed silent, but looked at Mikey and shook his head no.

She made a face and looked at them, "Seriously what?"

"You don't recognize us?" Calum asked softly.

She looked back to me almost looking desperate, "Should I?"

James quickly came over and interrupted all of us, "No, you shouldn't."

Mikey looked at him and punched him lightly in the arm, "What are you talking about?"

"She's never met you..." He said sternly looking at the two.

"If she hasn't met us...then...Oh my God..." Calum said quickly looking at her.

"Oh my God what?" Sam asked with a hint of fear in her voice.

"Nothing, don't worry love okay?" James said softly as she nodded.

She nodded slowly and I could feel my heart hurt seeing how much physical pain she was in, even just by nodding.

The doctor came in, "Can I take a moment in the hall with everyone please?"

We all nodded and as everyone walked out ahead of me Sam reached for my hand.

"Lukey?" She asked softly, her tone and the old nickname bringing back so many memories.

"Yes?" I asked taking her hand.

"I hurt..." She said moving uncomfortably.

I set her hand down lightly and lifted her up moving her pillow up to support her head.

I carefully laid her back down and she smiled, "Thank you."

"No problem..." I whispered.

"Mr. Hemmings to the hallway." Calum said peeking in the room.

"I'm coming." I laughed as he walked back out.

"Are you coming back...?" She asked me.

I nodded, "Yeah...I'll be right back."

She relaxed and I walked out into the hallway.

"Alright, well explanations please?" Calum asked the doctor.

"She's experiencing post traumatic amnesia, the accident caused her brain to rattle against her skull, giving her multiple concussions and also caused memories to be scattered. From what we've observed with talking to James, she's been sent back about five years." The doctor explained.

James stepped in, "Which means she doesn't remember ever meeting Ashton, ever meeting Calum, ever meeting Michael, and she still believes she's dating Luke."

"So, um, wow...is there anyway we can retrieve or like get the memories back?" Michael asks sitting down in the grey chair in front of Sam's room.

"From recent studies, you would have to play along with what she believes. So, Mr.Hemmings, you would have to be affectionate and play the role as if you were still her boyfriend and the rest of your friends have to play as if they've never met her before. Because if anyone brings up that she doesn't remember or that she isn't dating whoever or anything along those lines it will cause panic and stress and the memories could never come back."

We all nodded slowly just internalizing what was happening.

"W-well um...how can we get them directly back?" Calum asked.

"You'd have to recreate certain memories, certain phrases can trigger memories, certain characteristics can as well, so it would have to depend on what stood out to her." The doctor explained.

"Okay." Michael nodded.

This was...wow.

She was my girlfriend again.

She didn't remember the guys.

And more importantly, she at the moment didn't know her own boyfriend...and thought I was him.

What the hell was I going to do?
