It was only the middle of October & yet 4 PM looked a lot like 8 PM. Soon enough, 6 PM would look like midnight on a winter's new day.
Arūna glanced outside the window to her right, seeing Oikawa's reflection. She'd ignored it, wanting to begin on the portrait instead of consistently watching Oikawa check himself out every few seconds with the window's reflection.
He'd say he was ready, but the second Arūna would look at him & look back at the canvas, she'd catch him posing again to his reflection. Arūna wondered what the people walking outside her school thought after seeing a random guy blow kisses to himself.
The girl looked around the classroom, seeing how her other club member already had the basic sketch of the person they were drawing. One guy seemed like he already planned out where the light would come from in his portrait.
Arūna let out a quiet sigh, dropping her head lightly before picking up her amusingly short pencil & drew an almost perfect circle. She cursed under her breath & picked up her rubber.
Oikawa exaggerated a gasp:
- Arū'chan! I didn't know you were capable of using such language!- Yeah, your mum taught me. Anyway, can we get started? It's been five minutes, and all I have is a circle. Or... a square?... I don't even know at this point.
- Okay, okay, Arū'chan! No need to be so stubborn.
Oikawa turned back to Arūna & crossed his legs, neatly propping his hands on his knees. Arūna peered over her blank canvas.
- Um... Could you be more relaxed? Remember, this is a portrait, not an ID photo.
- Well, what can I do in a portrait? Portrait paintings are boring.
Arūna shrugged a little, trying to perfect the square circle:
- Think of it like... like a selfie. - Arūna gestured at something with her pencil. - You take lots of those, don't you? Come on, strike me some poses?Oikawa stayed silent for a moment, thinking before a smile beamed his face. He uncrossed his legs & placed his hands on the side of the chair.
- I know! Do you have any cards with you?
Arūna raised a brow before slowly leaning towards her bag & unzipping it.
- Sure?... But what are you going to do with a deck of poker cards? - Arūna handed him the stack of cards.
Oikawa quickly flipped through almost all of the cards as though he was performing a magic trick. He slipped out one with a simple design: the Ace of Spades.
He handed Arūna the rest of the cards, to which the girl placed them back in the little paper box & sealed it. Arūna looked back at Oikawa, watching him figure out a pose through his reflection in the window again.
- Okay. I'm ready. - Oikawa stated once he turned around to face Arūna.
Oikawa raised his head a little as though he was looking down upon Arūna with a sly grin curving his lips & with relaxed eyes that stared back at the girl. Between his index & middle finger, Oikawa held the Ace of Spades, showing just enough for her to recognise the card, keeping it near his face, which covered a little of his grin.
Arūna stared back at Oikawa. Her blank expression slowly changed into something like... she'd looked almost amazed.
Oikawa tilted his head a little:
- Take a picture, Arūna. It'll last longer.Arūna hid behind the canvas, beginning to draw while cursing at herself in her mind.
- Sorry for staring.
