The slightly cold end-of-August breeze slowly flew past Oikawa, a few leaves following the wind.
Oikawa hunched his shoulders a little, hiding half his face behind his zipped-up jersey jacket. He shoved his hands into his jacket's pockets, feeling a small piece of paper crinkle a little that Oikawa had neatly folded not too long ago during physics class.
He'd received his test results that day. To his own & Iwaizumi's shock, Oikawa had done average. Just average. That average was better than all of his other previous scores.
No longer had it been a barely passing score. It was simply average. Nevertheless, it was enough for Oikawa to go out after volleyball practice & celebrate by hitting up a café with Iwaizumi that opened up around a month ago near his school.
- Hey, - Iwaizumi spoke up & gestured towards the café they'd left a few minutes ago. - I'm gonna go back for a minute. I need to use the toilet.
Oikawa smiled:
- Make sure to buy something for me on your way out!- Buy it yourself, bastard. - Iwaizumi exclaimed as he headed back towards the café.
Oikawa grabbed his phone from his pocket, briefly checking tomorrow's weather & his new school schedule.
A few metres away from him, Oikawa heard the laughter of two girls passing by him. He looked up from his phone & noticed two familiar faces exit the café he'd just been in.
- Junior high was rough for you though, wasn't it? Especially third year. You really went feral.
- Don't remind me...
The two girls headed towards the bus stop. The one with dark, cherry burgundy hair - Sora - quickly hopped onto her bus after hugging the one with short brown hair - Arūna - goodbye. This was his chance.
Oikawa placed away his phone & began slowly walking up to Arūna from behind. He watched closely as she unlocked her phone's lock screen before he—
- Oikawa? - Arūna turned around.
- Hm? Oh, Arū'chan. What a surprise to see you here! - Oikawa exclaimed with a smile on his face, casually walking up to her with a smile.
Arūna placed her phone away:
- You didn't come to class yesterday. Did something happen?- Oh, don't worry your pretty head about it, little Cutie. I was only busy at practice.
Arūna pushed back a few strands of hair away from her eyes.
- By the way, how did you do on your test? You said you had it this week, didn't you? - she asked calmly, glancing a little at the clouds behind Oikawa.
Oikawa hurriedly pulled out the neatly folded piece of paper that he ripped from the back of his physics notebook since he didn't have a spare piece of paper. He quickly unravelled it with a proud smile plastered over his face.
- Well, not to brag or anything, but I did pretty well on it. - Oikawa happily stated, almost as though he was bragging.
He showed Arūna the test & handed her the paper. The girl slightly squinted as she took it from Oikawa's hand.
- ...You got a fifty-four percent. That's just barely average.
- I— It's still better than what I usually get! - Oikawa blurted out. - And... also, thanks for the study session. The parts you said were important actually came up on the test.
A soft, pastel pink colour lightly appeared over Oikawa's face as he, for a mere second, swore he'd witnessed Arūna smile at the paper. Oikawa's eyes darted towards the pavement in subtle embarrassment. At least his drawing had become a slight reality.
