- By the way, - Arūna turned towards Oikawa, - don't be obnoxious. One of my club members likes to pick fights. Also, we're a little late, so don't get weirded out when the teacher stares.
Oikawa's shoulders tensed when Arūna opened the door to the club room. She stepped inside & bowed while she greeted the teacher & other students while Oikawa followed from behind. His smug attitude disintegrated immediately once he stepped inside.
Tooru glanced over the painting students, trying to figure out which one resembled two specific people. However, Oikawa's eyes hadn't landed on anyone who might want to throw him out the window.
So, it was a devil hiding in plain sight. Was it the girl with hair shorter than his? Or was it the boy using rings to paint the background? Perhaps even the teacher? No, there's no way. Arūna said it was a club member.
Maybe it was the girl with purple-tinted hair? No, no... they seem too innocent. How about the guy with a shaved head? No, he looks like a calm person.
Oikawa would never know unless he'd try... an experiment. Arūna sat down in front of her easel & placed her bag away. She took off her school vest, folded it & put it on the wooden windowsill. The girl untucked her white button-up from her skirt before stretching her arms lightly.
She looked back at Oikawa, who was still standing & staring at a guy with curly black hair, slumped over a desk. His fist gripped a small, dirty paintbrush & he slammed it on the desk.
For a split second, Oikawa's face showed disgust & fear, then a thousand other emotions once the guy hit the wooden desk. He hurried over to Arūna & hid behind her ease.
Arūna peered over the portrait & raised a brow:
- You good?Oikawa jumped at her barely audible voice:
- Don't scare me like that, Arū'chan! The guy with the dirty paintbrush looked up from the desk & glanced at Oikawa. For a moment, they made eye contact, which Oikawa couldn't hold for more than a second.
- Oh dear, there are only six of you? And only Aikawa has her reference? - the teacher looked up from her computer. - My my, what a shame.
The girl with hair shorter than Oikawa's shrugged:
- Most are sick, so that's probably why. Plus, my reference is my mum and she has work, so...- Yeah... - the boy with rings added. - It's hard to have my reference here when it's my dad.
The one with purple hair joined in:
- My reference broke her fuck—, - the girl bit her lip & paused. - ...She fractured her wrist yesterday after slipping on the ice.The teacher looked up & down at them, squinting with her brows furrowed.
- ...Sorry.
- That's more like it. - the teacher continued her work on the computer. - Well then, continued painting. Reminder, the due date is Thursday this week, so I hope you finish today or tomorrow. And Junpei, get back to work.
Oikawa leaned closer to Arūna, his hand covering a side of his face. Arūna quickly leaned away before she realised what the gesture meant.
- What are their names? - he whispered.
The boy with curls got up from the desk & returned to his easel. He sat down sloppily with a drop & dipped the small paintbrush into a black shade before messily continuing a girl's hair in his portrait. Though with such a small paintbrush, he'd probably finish the hair after everyone's completed everything.
Arūna gently pushed Oikawa back onto his seat with her fingertips at his chest.
- Sit still.
Oikawa exaggerated a pout. He crossed his arms & looked away. But Tooru slowly looked down & placed his hands on his knees once he saw Arūna's disappointed stare.
