Ch. 9 Autobot Base

NightWave POV

Night came faster than I thought. I was given directions to the room where I would be staying at  starting today, and to my surprise, I was assigned a room all to myself. Of course with the exception of the fact that I would be rooming across from Optimus Prime himself. I knew he was only doing that to keep a close optic on me for the time being, so I didn't really complain. It was also preferable to that chilly and empty cell room.

I woke up in the middle of the night with a piercing ache in my chest. I felt as though I had been stabbed. I grumbled and got out of bed, unable to fall back asleep. For some reason, I decided to open the bond I shared with my brother's Soundwave and Shockwave for a short moment. I positioned my servo over my chest, where my spark resided. 

": I-I... I... am sorry:" I said before closing the bond not expecting a reply since Shockwave was dead and Soundwave was a different story. Even if he could reply, we couldn't communicate because of distance away from one another.

I am not sure how long I stayed awake, but eventually, I started to hum a small song that I used to sing to Halo to help him relax when he first started having panic attacks after I adopted him. I used to sing this lovely melody to him all the time. I started humming it at first, then I started singing it quietly. Just then, I heard two knocks on my berthroom door, which instantly caused me to stop singing.

": Huh, who is it?:" I asked, standing up.

"It's me Optimus. I heard that you were still awake and wanted to see if you were okay" the Autobot leader Optimus replied back. I relaxed and just sat back down on the ground.

": C-come in:" I called. I watched the door slide open and Optimus came inside. He looked around until his optics landed on me. I was sitting down on the floor with my back against the wall.

"I didn't mean to disturb you. I heard you and was just wondering why you were still up" He said. I sighed.

": I couldn't recharge, so I decided to pass the time singing a bit:" I replied. He nodded sitting down on the floor next to me. Not gonna lie, but sitting next to the one and only Autobot leader alone in an empty room felt strange.

"That song was really lovely. What's the song's name?" He questioned. I chuckled quietly to myself so he wouldn't hear.

": Counting stars. I heard it once and sang it to Halo during one of his panic attacks that he got after adopting him. He seemed to calm down after that, so I just learned the entire song:" I said. He gave a nod, and we were silent for a while before he spoke up again.

"Could you continue? It sounds great" He asked. After giving it some thought, I was hesitant to say no. I don't think I sound as good as he stated. I sighed and just nodded, then sang the rest of the song very softly. After I finished the song, he started talking.

"Can I ask you the reason behind why you wear that collar?" He questioned. I sighed and touched the collar with a frown. I was hoping that nobody would question why I wore this necklace around my neck. I used to hide the necklace before the war started and now that I didn't it always felt weird whenever someone asked me about it. After all, it was a really sensitive topic for me and Halo was the only one who knew the real reason behind the necklace.

": My Sire put it around my neck when I was young. I don't know the reason and my guess is that he didn't like how my real voice sounded. I used to hide it before the war started but now I just leave it alone:" I responded.

"I could ask Ratchet to remove it if you want?" He suggested and reached over to touch it, but I hastily pulled away. I wasn't usually the kind to get too physical with others, with the exception of Halo, but even so, there were moments when I flinched unconsciously when Halo would suddenly gave me a hug while I was in my human form.
