Ch. 27 Game Night & School Meeting

After spending the entire day assisting Ratchet, it was now time to pick Halo up from school. I parked outside Halo's school after driving over there and waited for him to come out. Before long, I saw Halo and the other three humans exit the building. Because Bulkhead was still not cleared to go on duty, Miko headed for Bumblebee's alt-mode with Raf, while Jack went to Arcee as usual. I waited and let Halo in through the door.

Halo sat down and tightened his seat belt, saying, "Hey, Night." Just as I opened my mouth to speak, I saw one of Halo's educators approaching. As soon as I recognized who it was, I let out a low growl and quickly activated my human form before opening the driver door and stepping outside.

": I'll be back so stay here:" I remarked, shutting the door behind me and walking up to Miss. McGee. Evelyn McGee was the vice principle and she is the kind of person who will pry into other people's affairs, which annoyed me so much the first year Halo attended school here. Everything the school manages, including activities, fund-raisers, conferences for teachers and students, and parent involvement, is always under the direction of Miss. McGee. It was the worst.

"Hello, Rue" Miss. McGee said in Miko's sometimes-annoying high pitch voice. I forced a charming smile.

": Greetings, Miss. McGee. Is there any you need help with?:" I asked, attempting to seem as polite as possible despite the fact that I was currently annoyed. I was just playing along for the sake of Halo.

"Oh, Rue, why so formal? After all, we have been acquaintances for over two years now" Miss. McGee remarked.

": Of course, Evelyn. So, what is wrong?:" I asked once more, anxious to get out of there. Miss. McGee's smile quickly turned from a simple, everyday smile to a smirk.

"Not much at all. I just recently heard something quite intriguing. Is it true that you secretly got married to a guy you met a few months ago?" she questioned. I sighed. Living in a small town and everyone knowing that I was a single mother with an adopted son, I knew that the lie that Optimus had told at the school festival where we met a year ago and got married a few months ago would spread rapidly. Honestly, being referred to as Optimus wife didn't really bother me, but I knew that soon enough, people like Miss. McGee would start questioning me. All I had just hope was that it hadn't come this fast.

": Indeed, that's right. I didn't want to draw too much attention to kept my personal life from others, due to my husband's work, but I don't think that's what you wanted to talk about, correct?:" I asked with an explanation. Miss. McGee grinned.

"Yeah, obviously not. Actually, Halo was what I wanted to talk about. Halo has undergone a few changes lately, which I found have had a significant impact on his grades. I would love meeting with you for a parent and teacher conferences soon, and perhaps you could even bring that charming and mysterious husband of yours to discuss Halo's school work. As the president of all school activities, I think it's beneficial that I get to know all student's parents" Miss. McGee said. I nodded, trying not to break the fake smile.

": Actually, I doubt that my husband will be able to make it. He's quite busy at work and other things:" I responded.

"It's alright. Both of you can schedule the meeting whenever you're free. Although I worry a lot about Halo's schoolwork, I will understand, but the sooner the better. I'll let you know the time in a private chat if you just text me the day" Evelyn remarked, "I see you and your husband then," before turning to wave good-bye. I immediately returned to my alt-mode, and as soon as I shut the door, I sighed and gave a quick growl before turning to face Halo and removing my false smile.

": Halo... anything you want to share with me?:" I asked. He stared at me with a puzzled expression.

"Huh, what do you mean?" He questioned, but I noticed that he appeared somewhat uneasy, as though he understood what I was talking about. I exhaled.
