Halo POV

I can't even count the number of days that went by since Jack and I were officially rescued from MECH and our relationship was restored. Jack and I were eventually cleared for release from the hospital after being treated for all of our injuries and spend a few days there recovering. As soon as we stepped outside the hospital, Arcee and NightWave were there waiting for us. Even though there was still tension between Arcee and NightWave, at least they now agreed that their human child's life was the most important thing, and they made the decision to try to make things right for us.

As soon as I was released from the hospital, NightWave took me back home, allowing me to recover from that awful experience. I wished for things to get back to normal, but I couldn't help to be haunted by my ex-parents' memory. Even though I knew I wasn't with them and they couldn't hurt me anymore, I was still terrified, and I could tell NightWave felt powerless against not being able to ease my fear.

After a few days, Agent Fowler showed up at our door to tell us some news regarding my birth parents. He explained that in the past during the fifth year of my ex-parents' imprisonment, there was a major incident involving MECH and a group of inmates who worked for them within the prison. It all happened around the time that my ex-parents were arrested and placed under custody. According to Agent Fowler, my ex-parents staged a brawl in their fifth year of incarceration, which led to their escape after joining the MECH from inside the prison.

He said that NightWave had chosen not to receive any more monthly updates about my ex-parents during their second year of imprisonment, which was why they didn't inform her of their escape three years later. I was surprised to learn that NightWave had been monitoring my biological parents for over five years before halting. NightWave immediately expressed her resentment at not remaining me informed about my ex-parents, saying that she didn't want to bother me and that she wished she had kept trying to maintain tabs on them so that she could have been informed as soon as they escaped.

I wasn't angry with her because I knew why she did it, and it made me happy to know that she was monitoring my ex-parents on a monthly basis even though she barely knew me. It showed me how much she cared for me from the beginning. Agent Fowler went on to explain that my ex-parents and every member of MECH will be transferred to a maximum security prison located in the middle of the ocean. However, before that, Agent Fowler added that NightWave had suggested me to go see them one final time in the hopes that it would help me relax a little bit knowing that they could never hurt me again. I wasn't sure at first since I was afraid of seeing them again, but in the end I agreed.

FLASHBACK

I observed as the room's door slowly opened. I took one last look at NightWave, who was standing off to the side, before going into the completely white space that had a bulletproof glass on the wall to the right. My ex-parents were sitting in two separate chairs, shackled down, on the other side of the glass. As soon as I walked into the room, they both glanced up fast.

"YOU!" my ex-Mother shouted, violently attempting to rise up but failing since the shackles held her down to the chair. I flinched, but soon composed myself by taking a few deep breaths, before walking forward, and sat down in a chair across from them, safely on this side of the glass.

"Hello, M... Gina. Ethan," I spoke, addressing them by name. Upon addressing them with their name, I watched my ex-Mother become increasingly enraged.

"Brat, watch your tone! How dare you address me by my name?!" Gina shouted, "I am still your Mother!" Ignoring my ex-Mother, I faced my ex-Father, who was much calmer than my ex-Mother was but still had an unpleasant expression of anger on his face.

"Tsk, what do you want? Here to make fun of us for being caught for the second time in our wretched existence?" Ethan asked. I sighed.

"I'll be honest, I was told that perhaps seeing both of you behind bars could help me feel safer and better. However, I'm left wondering, "why am I really here for?" I lowered my head and whispered, placing my hands on my lab in front of me.
