Dreadwing POV
The atmosphere aboard the Nemesis was suffocating, filled with the weight of Megatron's fury. It was a storm that never ceased, crackling through the corridors like barely contained lightning. Every Vehicon scurried through the halls with nervous precision, their servos tense and optics darting as though any misstep might draw his fury. The very walls seemed to hum with the unspoken threat his wrath carried.
I kept my steps measured, steady despite the tension pressing down like a crushing force. My thoughts churned like dark currents beneath the surface. Smokescreen's escape had been a stain on our cause. A failure that had not only cost us the Omega Keys but also left Megatron seething with rage. His anger was as relentless as a plasma cannon's sustained fire, scorching everything in its path. There would be no rest until he had those keys back in his grasp.
The loss echoed in my mind with every step. We had been outmaneuvered, and Megatron's pride would not allow such a disgrace to go unpunished. He was determined to reclaim what we had lost, no matter the cost. And we, his warriors, would be the instruments of that vengeance.
The hum of the warship's engines thrummed beneath my feet, a reminder of the constant march forward, of war that never ended. I exhaled slowly, the weight of duty and expectation pressing heavily on my shoulders. There was no room for doubt. We had failed once, but Megatron would ensure that it did not happen again.
My optics scanned the dimly lit corridors of the Nemesis, though I wasn't searching for anything in particular. My body moved on instinct, but my mind was elsewhere, a battlefield far more dangerous than any physical one. I had always taken pride in my loyalty. Loyalty to the cause, to my brother, to the Decepticon Empire. It had defined me. Strength, duty, and honor had shaped my purpose. Yet now, that foundation felt... fractured.
I had seen too much. Megatron's insatiable ambition, his willingness to discard even the most devoted soldiers for the sake of his goals. Promises made and broken. Sacrifices rendered meaningless in the pursuit of a hollow victory. Soldiers were not warriors under his command, they were resources, expendable and replaceable. The weight of those truths bore down on me more with each passing cycle.
And then there was her... NightWave.
Her capture wasn't the triumph Megatron would have others believe. To him, NightWave was just another pawn on his chessboard, a piece to be manipulated and toyed with. She wasn't a key to victory. Her imprisonment didn't bring us any closer to defeating the Autobots. I had never fully understood why Megatron was so intent on capturing her. If she were truly of no importance, why not eliminate her? Why keep her under constant guard? Why let her existence linger like a thorn in his side?
But each time I looked at her, restrained and wounded yet still refusing to yield, something inside me twisted. She wasn't like the others. There was a strength in her gaze, a defiant fire that no chains could extinguish. She carried her suffering with a dignity that should have made me feel triumphant, but it didn't. It made me question everything.
How many more would we break? How many more would fall before this endless war devoured us all? What kind of future were we really fighting for? One built on lies, betrayal, and the unrelenting spilling of Energon? Would that truly honor Skyquake's memory? The brother I had sworn to uphold. Was this what he would have wanted? Was this the legacy he had entrusted to me?
The questions gnawed at me, each one cutting deeper than the last. I tightened my fists, the armor on my servos creaking from the pressure. Duty and loyalty were supposed to give me clarity, purpose, but now, all they offered was doubt.
My fists clenched at my sides as I strode toward the observation deck, each step echoing softly in the hollow corridors of the Nemesis. The door hissed open, and I was greeted by the vast expanse of the night sky. Stars stretched endlessly before me, their cold, distant light flickering like fragile sparks in the void. Once, they had inspired me, filled me with a sense of destiny and purpose. They had been a symbol of our ambition, of the future the Decepticons would conquer and rebuild.
