Halo POV

I was waiting back at the base, which felt colder than usual, its metallic walls echoing every distant sound. I sat on the edge of the platform, my fingers gripping the metal so tightly they ached. Anxiety twisted my insides and the tension in the room was suffocating. Minutes stretched out as the silence persisted, broken only by the faint hum of machinery and the occasional click of scanning equipment.

Optimus had been right to suspect danger. After the revelation that the last Iacon relic pointed to Smokescreen himself, it threw us all by surprised and shocked. How was that even possible?

Suddenly, the Groundbridge whirred to life, its portal swirling in a burst of green light. I jumped to my feet with surging hope, but it was short-lived. Optimus and the others stepped through, their frames casting heavy shadows, but the two figures I desperately wanted to see weren't with them. My heart sank.

"Where are they?" I asked. My voice cracked, and I hated how small I sounded, "Optimus, where's NightWave? And Smokescreen?"

Optimus's optics met mine for only a moment before he looked away, his usually unwavering presence dimmed, as though the weight of the situation had dulled his light. His brief hesitation said more than any words could.

"They were taken" Arcee said bluntly, stepping forward. Her tone was steady, but the tension in her frame betrayed the storm brewing beneath her calm exterior.

"T-Taken?" I asked. A heavy pressure gripped my chest, squeezing tighter with every beat of my heart, "By who?!"

"Soundwave" Optimus answered. His tone carrying the weight of failure. My eyes snapped to Ratchet, who was typing frantically, his servos dancing across the console like a blur of motion.

"It would seem that they must have been taken aboard the Decepticon warship" Ratchet said grimly, his optics scanning the monitors. He shook his head, his expression tight with frustration, "Tracing their signal through its shielding will be impossible."

I stepped back, the weight of his words hitting me like a physical blow. I glanced around the room, taking in the somber expressions on everyone's faces.  And Optimus... Optimus looked like he blamed himself.

"Continue monitoring all frequencies, Ratchet. Far more than Smokescreen's fate may be at stake" Optimus said, his voice as solid as ever, but this time it felt distant, like he was speaking through layers of fog.

"I don't get it" Bulkhead muttered, his deep voice cutting through the haze, "How could Smokescreen be an Omega Key?"

"Perhaps not the key itself" Ratchet said, though even he sounded uncertain, "But the container."

I exhaled shakily as the voices around me warped and faded, distorted by the pounding of my own heartbeat. My panic clawed its way up my spine, sharp and suffocating. My thoughts latched onto NightWave. Her fierce determination. Her refusal to ever back down. But what if... what if this time wasn't enough? What if I never saw her again?

That last thought hit me like a freight train, knocking the breath out of me. I stumbled backward until my back met the cold edge of a table. My fingers dug into the metal, desperate for something solid as the room seemed to tilt around me. I didn't even notice I was trembling until a steady gentle weight pressed down on my shoulder.

My breath hitched as I forced myself to look up and was met by Optimus massive frame knelt down beside me to meet me at eye level. His optics glowed softly, and his expression held none of the heavy defeat I'd seen moments ago.

"Halo" He said gently, his voice a lifeline against the storm of thoughts in my head. I swallowed hard, my throat tight.

"Optimus... I-I don't know... what if she..." I began, but couldn't finish. Optimus held my gaze, his presence grounding me before the spiral could drag me under again.
