Chapter 22

Sugawara's POV:

I could see Daichi and Asahi from a distance. They were (not so) patiently waiting by a water fountain, leaning against the stone wall that surrounded it. They seemed to be mid conversation when Daichi noticed me, he gave a little wave and it only took a few more seconds to fully reach them.
"Hey." Daichi says with a smile.

"Suga!" Asahi enthusiastically greets. I think he's been with Noya too much, the chaos is starting to rub off. "I'm glad you could make it. I've missed you."

"We've." Daichi corrects him.

"Yes, we've. It's been far too long."
It's been far too long. Why have i been hearing that so much today?
Far too long.
Too long.
I've been gone for too long.
My brain told me 'not for much longer'. But there was that ache in my heart. The ache that tells me i'm getting my hopes up. That, it's been Too long. Too long to go back.

"I saw you both an hour ago. If that." I argue with a forced smile as i was in conflict with my positive and negative thoughts.

I think Oikawa noticed. "Did you miss me too?" He jokes and they both laugh. They didn't say yes. I could tell Oikawa noticed the avoidances in answering, but (surprisingly) he didn't bring any attention to it. He gave me a side glance and stuck his bottom lip out a little just for me to see his sulk but quickly turned his attention back to the group.
Of course they missed him. Oikawa, despite supposed to being our biggest enemy, was a friend to us all. Some closer than others (i hope i'm the only one kissing him) but i know for a fact that my team value Oikawa as a person.
But, it goes without doubt, Oikawa's terrible anxiety will eat him alive.
"So, what're the plans?"

"Great question." Answers Asahi. "We're going birthday shopping."

I was about to tease that Oikawa was the perfect man for the job but a different question came to mind, "Who's birthday is it?" And i really hoped i haven't forgotten someone's birthday. I don't need that guilt.
It made me a little relieved when Daichi looked just as confused as me.

"Yuu's." We all stay silent. Because i swear it wasn't Noya birthday for another... "In two months." Ah. "But i'm getting a head start"
We all nodded our heads and hummed in unison. We all knew how terrible Asahi was under pressure so it was no surprise to see him preparing for birthday things months prior to the actual date.

"Any plans in mind?" Daichi asks.

"Vague. But i have a high budget." Of course he does. If you want to call anyone a simp from Karasuno, you're looking at Asahi. Unbelievable, i know. You'd think Tanaka but just take a closer look at what Asahi does for Noya and you'll stand corrected.

Oikawa claimed he knew where all the best shops were for birthday stuff and promised us he was the best at throwing people birthday parties and giving gifts. I mocked him but then he reminded me of how he asked me out, four days ago, and i shut up real quick. Because Oikawa Was the best at throwing people the best birthday parties and gifts.
He brought us to all kind of shops where Asahi would constantly say "He would love this!" Or, "He needs this." And, "He'd never put this down". It made me cornered for Nishinoya since some of the items Asahi picked up where questionable items you "needed" and "love". Like, for example, multi coloured juggling balls and massive nerf guns you'd buy for a kids 10th birthday. Asahi bought a lot of things to the point all four of us were carrying bags of gifts you'd usually give to kids. But i guess Noya is kind of a kid at heart. And body.

"Asahi, i think you've over done yourself." Daichi says as we walk out the hundredth shop today. I agree and add that my arms are starting to hurt from carrying bags.

"Yeah, Jesus Asahi." Agrees Oikawa. "You're making me jealous, i might just run off with all this." Oikawa was holding the bag with the nerf guns and bullets in and i kinda hoped he would run off with them. Because having a nerf fight with Oikawa sounds chaotic-ly brilliant. "Besides," He continues, "You have two months. I recommend spending less time-and money- on gifts and planning the actual party."
