Nikki stays holding me up as I cry until my tears dry up. Without saying a word, she takes hold of my hand and leads me to the sitting room. She sits quietly, letting me speak when I'm ready. I relay how it went with meeting Joe's band mates. "I don't understand why you are upset with this Donnie guy. Who is he exactly?" I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I reach down to where my handbag is which is laid on the floor next to the sofa. Inside, I take a special photo then hand it to Nikki. "Baby Edie. What has she got to do with Donnie though?" She hands me back the photo, her name is a shortened version of her father. Donald Edmund Wahlberg." It takes her a few moments until it clicks. She gasps. "Donnie is Erie's Dad?" I nod. I hold the photo against my heart. This is something I do when I think about my baby girl. "As soon as I saw him, everything came flooding back to me. All I could see is Edie as she laid in my arms." I start to sob again and Nikki scuttles closer to put her arm around me. "What do I do Nikki?"
"Okay Katee. Does Joe know your history with Donnie?" I shake my head. "I've never told anyone who Edie's father is. I never thought I'd see him again." She suggests I tell Joe. Sooner than later. Whatever I do, I should sleep on it.
I'm in the bathroom refreshing myself and getting ready to relax for the rest of the evening here at Joe's, when I hear his voice coming through from the entrance lobby. I think he's chatting with Nikki. I just don't know when to tell him and what to say exactly. Maybe I should wait until before I'm due to go back home because I don't want to make things awkward or difficult with Joey. I hope it doesn't break us or affect his relationship with Donnie or the band. I know it's in the past but there's not one second where I'm not thinking about my baby girl and wondering what she would be like if she was here.
"Katee, where you at babe?" I put my products back neatly next to my cosmetics bag on the sink and walk into the bedroom. I'm greeted by Joe putting his arms around me. "I'm sorry about having to dash off like that. The record company called me in. " Is everything okay Joe?" He smiles and goes to twirl me round even though there's no music. "Everything is perfect. Life is perfect. You're perfect for me, Katee." I try not to giggle at his cheesiness but I know he's being sincere. "I don't deserve you Joseph." He frowns at me. "None of that talk missy. I'm the lucky sod." We stop. Our eyes lock. All I can hear is both of our hearts beating heavily. We both lean in closer, our lips softly touching. The kiss starts of soft and gently, then develops into something much more passionate. Somehow, he's managed to manoeuvre us to the bed and he's laid above me, using his arms to hold himself up so that I'm not bearing his weight. Not that I imagine him to weigh much as he's slim but slightly athletic built. He brushes my hair off my face and lays his forehead against mine, then he places a kiss there.
