I don't know what I was thinking, this was so stupid.
I thought to myself as we arrived at his mother's house, my back aching from being in that suitcase for over half an hour. I looked around and couldn't believe how huge the house was. There were easily over twenty rooms, fifty windows, and a large decorative staircase with a dark purple carpet running down the center. The sunshine flowed through the house, reflecting off all the clocks lining the walls and the enormous mirror over the fireplace, which reflected the light onto the beautiful cherry wood floors.
"Come on, you can stay in my room with me."
Donovan hesitated for a brief moment before adding,
"Or you can sleep in one of the guest rooms if that'll make you more comfortable."
I looked up at him and smiled, grabbing his hand and holding it to my heart.
"This house is huge. I don't think I can make it alone.."
"It's okay, my love. You can sleep with me, come on."
Donovan gently takes my arm and leads me upstairs. I couldn't help but look at all the pictures along the wall. There were names and dates under all of them, the oldest one showed a man in his seventies with fading hair and barely a wrinkle on his face. That date showed 1804.
He took me into the biggest bedroom I have ever seen. There were windows reaching from the floor to the ceiling with large pitch-black drapes pushed to the side so the alluring sunset could flare its many colors throughout the room.
"Oh my god. It's huge!"
I proclaimed with a smile large enough to show off my dimples as I rushed over to the bed, running my fingertips across the decorative pillowcases.
"Not only is it huge, but it's ours now."
I barely had two seconds to comprehend what Donovan said before he picked me up and threw me on the bed, slowly crawling over to me and pulling me close to his chest. I rested my head against his chest, closing my eyes as I listened to his heartbeat.
