I felt the tears build up in my eyes as I watched the ship leave. I didn't know why I was about to cry. This male just about killed me and my mother. I watched as he threw the paper and it seemed like some string carried it to me.
I grabbed it and opened it up, noticing the letters I had written just weeks earlier. I then turned it over and noticed the writing in the beautiful cursive handwriting:
Is this one huge nightmare I am in? Or is this a beautifully tragic love story that was meant to happen? I guess we will never know. You've learned my story. I can't send my voice to a lost prayer any longer. At this point, I say goodnight to the tired eyes. To the pain. To the old me. And I guess this is the end for us. You know what to do.
After I finished reading, I looked up towards the boat, only to discover he was over the horizon at this point. I bit my lip hard as I looked back down at the note. I folded it up and stuck it in my coat pocket, right over my heart. I then looked at my mother, who looked confused and tired.
I took her hand and said, "Let's go home.."
