At dinner, I didn't see Kasper eating. He was just sitting at the table with Heston, the oldest man in this place. Nobody really knows why he's here. And then there's Saint, the paranoid schizophrenic who believes the Devil is always watching him. I moved closer so I could hear what they were saying.
"Kasper, it'll be fine. Just stay to yourself and don't ever fight back. Do what they say."
He didn't say anything. He just chewed on his lip as he fed Saint another bite.
"I know it's hard, but if you want to prove to them you're not crazy, that's the only way.'
"Heston, you've been here for decades..-"
Kasper's voice was scratchy and broken. I couldn't help but to sigh, a bitter cold feeling spreading through my chest. I fought myself to say with a strong voice,
"I'm sorry, boys, but dinner is over.."Kasper barely gave me a glance as he stood up to put his plate in the sink. Before I knew it, I grabbed his arm and pulled him into the closet, away from everybody else.
"Kasper, please just let me explain.."
He still didn't look at me. He just looked down at the floor, fumbling with his fingers.
"Kasper, I want to apologize for what I did.. I completely betrayed you and I'm going to do everything I possibly can to make it up to you. I-I..-"
At this point, I was completely tongue-tied. I knew exactly what I wanted to say, but I didn't know how to say it. I gently grabbed his hands, rubbing my thumb across his knuckles.
"I love you.."
His head snapped up to look at me, causing me to flinch and pull away. He was half my size, but he also killed quite a few people. I was ready to defend myself even though I knew he wouldn't hurt me.
"Y-You... love me?"
