3rd Person POV

The Honest Tree, an oak tree located in Seongguk-gu. It's called the Honest Tree because if you sit under the tree, you will not be able to tell a lie. If you do lie under the tree, you will be cursed. Well, that's what the parents of Lee Jieun and Sim Jaeyun told the children. Lee Jieun, a humble soft spoken girl and Sim Jaeyun, a young thoughtful sweet boy with a passion in music; are best friends. They've been friends since they were in the womb, thanks to the fact that their mothers are also close friends.

It was a sunny day, 11 year old Jieun was reading her book peacefully under the Honest Tree before she got startled by someone behind her. "BOO!" yelled Jaeyun. "Aishh, you didn't have to scare m like that y'know?" sighed Jieun. "Whatcha reading?" asked Jaeyun. Jieun just showed him the book cover while Jaeyun nodded. "How was school?" asked Jieun. "Good, but some annoying girls were still running after me." Jaeyun shuddered making Jieun chuckle. Jieun placed her book back in her small messenger bag. "U-um, Jieun?" whispered Jaeyun making Jieun hum.

"How would you feel if I said that I'm moving?" Jaeyun asked nervously. "I would feel sad cuz you've been my best friend for 10 years." Jieun said not looking at Jaeyun. "Well, I-I am m-moving tomorrow.." Jaeyun said. "You're lying." Jieun said finally looking at Jaeyun. "I'm under the Honest Tree, I can't lie. I'm moving to Australia." Jaeyun said tearing up. "N-no." Jieun said eyes brimmed with tears. Jaeyun nodded. Jieun wiped her tears and said, "W-well, let's enjoy today shall we?" Jaeyun nodded wiping his tears away. They spent the entire evening playing together.

The next day, right before Jaeyun left for the airport, he came to talk to Jieun. "Jieun, I'm gonna miss you so much. I promise I will come back for you. I said that I will marry you when we get older." Jaeyun said hugging Jieun. "I'm gonna miss you more, Jaeyun. Promise you'll come back?" Jieun said taking her pinky finger out. "Promise." Jaeyun said making a pinky promise with Jieun. After the goodbyes, the Sim family left. Jieun broke down crying after she entered her room. How will she survive without Jaeyun? Jaeyun was her happiness, her best friend and her crush.

Timeskip 10 years later :

Jieun POV

Its been 10 years since I last saw Jaeyun, my best friend and my one and only crush. I really miss him, and I can't even contact him cuz I don't have his number. I was reading my favourite book under the tree when someone snatched it from me. "Hey!" I shouted. "Tch, still reading the same author even after 10 years huh?" A male voice said making me look back. Tears brimmed my eyes, "J-Jaeyun?" I said thinking that I was dreaming. "Yes Jieun, I'm back just like I promised." Jaeyun said opening his arms making me run to him and hug him tightly. "I-I thought that you'd never come back." I said crying my eyes out. "I'm offended y'know, I promised you that I will come back didn't I?" Jaeyun said making me look at him chuckling. We sat down beside each other and started telling about our lives in these 10 years since he left. "So did you get a girlfriend???" I said nudging Jaeyun's shoulder. I said that but in the inside I hoped not, I actually still liked Jaeyun. 

"Nope, because the love of my life was still waiting for me." He said making me confused. "Who?" I asked looking at him weirdly. "You." He said making me widen my eyes. "I'm not lying, I really do love you, Jieun. In fact, I realized I loved you even before I left for Australia." He continued. "I love you too, I had a crush on you since 4th grade." I said not looking at him. I heard him chuckling saying 'I know'. He suddenly pulled me closer to him making our faces only inches apart. He kept staring at my lips then switching back to my eyes. I nodded making him connect our lips.

He pulled away after a few seconds. "Do you happen to have a Band-Aid? 'Cause I scraped my knees falling for you." He said making me giggle, "Yah, that was so cheesy omg." He ignore what I just said and continued telling me pick up lines, "Do you know what my shirt is made of? Boyfriend material." I laughed at his pick up lines, "Tsk, going to Australia made you a flirt huh?" He nodded making me laugh more, "Okay then lemme try." I said making him look at me confidently. "Kiss me if I'm wrong but, dinosaurs still exist, right?" I said making him smirk. He was about to kiss me but I ran away.

"IF YOU WANT TO KISS ME, YOU HAVE TO CATCH ME FIRST JAKEYY!" I yelled while still running. I heard him yell, "HOW DID YOU KNOW THE NAME JAKE??!" I laughed and continued running. He chased me all around the place until he finally caught me. "Okay now gimme a kiss this instant, babe." "Eww, don't call me babe." I said making me scoff. "Okay then, gimme a kiss Ji." I nodded and gave him a little peck on his cheek. He smiled widely and sat down. "Ji, remember the promise I made years ago?" "Which one? You made a lot of promises in 21 years of your life." I said making him chuckle. "I promised that I would marry you." He said making me choke on air. "Geez, calm down." He giggled. 

"Gimme your left hand." He put a ring onto my ring finger saying, "This is a promise ring, since we are too young to get married. But you better be sure that I would replace that with a real wedding ring in a few years." I nodded and we hugged. The Honest Tree, we cried, played, laughed and now we confessed and even kissed under it. Thank you, Honest Tree for making so many wonderful memories.

Soo, this was based on a legend I made for English Class. I changed the plot a little and ofc the names. MY TEACHER AND MY CLASSMATES LOVED IT! I got 23/25 because of how I didnt describe the Honest Tree so that's why I recreated it. If you guys want to read the original version, please tell me. The original version is about an orphaned girl meeting a young boy and making memories with him under the Honest Tree. Personally, I liked this version better than the original.
