We are almost to the town now, hearing nothing but leaves blowing in the wind. Smelling wilderness and seeing nothing but an empty town deserted and lit up from the bright moonlight. Gavyn pulls through the front of the group and dismounts.
"Quietly, lead your horses to the stables and meet back here." He says loud enough for them to hear but quiet enough not to draw attention. He helps me off of his horse, clenching his jaw as his hands skim from my hips to ribs and I nearly moan again from the shocks that go through my body. It quickly fades when he places me on the ground and leads his horse to the stables.
I will not cry. I'm strong. I can do this, focus on the mission.
As everyone gathers around in a tight knit circle Gavyn throws a barrier around them and begins his debrief.
"Our mission currently is to scout for the beasts. I want three groups total to spread out, I have total faith that you all can hold your own if faced with these monsters, be perceptive and aware of your surroundings always. They are savage with their attacks, coming at you with nothing but blood lust coursing through their minds. They will not hesitate to come at you full speed and kill you. Their goal is to take you out without any care of damage done. The advantage you have is that you are all able to make calculated decisions. You aren't mindless creatures."
He looks around the circle making sure everyone is coherent and understanding.
"You will do everything you can to take them down if they spot you. If you choose to abandon your team, then I suggest going back to your home villages and never stepping foot onto the palace grounds again. King Ryder picked you personally because of all of your strengths and you still are here now because I agree with the choices he's made. Our goal is to find information. If we are lucky, maybe we find where these beasts are coming from, you do not engage if you are not seen."
Everyone in the group grunts their understandings and Gavyn continues.
"I want three groups, 5 in each group, one water, two fire, one air, one earth. I don't care how many elements you may wield, these groups are based off of your primary element and that alone understood?"
"Yes commander" the group says
"Good, Yundor, Fawllin, and Zinnia you're with me. The rest of you have 2 minutes to make your groups."
They immediate discuss who will go where and I'm stuck in place not knowing if I am with Gavyns group, or if I am meant to be with the others, finding a group to fit in with.
I decide to double check and walk up to Gavyn. Clearing my throat he turns to me not looking directly at me.
"Kiera....."
"Uhh.....so...am I like.... Supposed to be looking for a spot with the other two groups?"
I'm my peripheral I see Yundor, Fawllin, and Zinnia whip their heads towards Gavyn waiting just as I am for his answer.
"I'm not sure what gave you that impression but you're to be with my group.........Kings orders." I hear him grumble the last bit under his breath. If he's going to act like a child I might as well turn the tables and spank his ass too.
"Ooookay then...." I say and link my arm with Zins as the three men walk toward the other two groups.
"Damn girl that stick up his ass must be glued to his intestines. Might take the whole squad to pull it out." Zin whispers to me and I laugh, causing Gavyns head to whip our way and give us a glare. Gods, please help me.
Standing together as three separate groups, Gavyn looks at the other two groups with approval and begins giving each group directions on where to head from here. After watching them disperse in different directions he turns and give our group his attention.
