Isabella
The drive home was silent on my end, Holden was raging, firing a dozen questions at me all at once.

"What the hell is the matter with you, running into the forest on your own? And for Caleb?"

I didn't answer.

"Was this because of the art project? Do you have a thing for him?"

Again, I didn't answer. I simply had no excuses.

When he reached my house, Holden got out of the car and slammed the door shut. He opened mine, and began to examine the blood on my pants," you could have been hurt, or worse, the wolf could have killed you."

But it didn't. It let me go.

"If you just wanted to know if Caleb was around, you could have asked. He was at practise a couple days ago."

My eyes immediately met Holden's," he was?"

"Only for a minute to talk with the coach."

I stayed silent and pondered again on what was going on. Holden turned my face to his," Izzy, what's going on?"

"Nothing," I whispered, blinking away tears.

"If this is about the art project, if Caleb is making you do it all on your own, just tell Mrs. Winston. You shouldn't feel guilty if he fails-"

"Caleb is probably dead, Holden!"

"He's not dead-"

"I saw him, I saw the wolf and he was crouching over his clothes, I'm not an idiot, I know what I saw!"

Holden was silent for a moment at my sudden uproar, finally he said," the sheriff said he'll text you when he finds out more, alright? Go to sleep, I'll see you tomorrow."

I sighed," my car-"

"Matt and some guys from the football team are on their way to it now, they're going to drive it back here."

I nodded and kissed his lips," thank you."

"Don't thank me, get some rest."

"I love you."

"I love you too," he responded.

I tossed and turned that night, I stayed up hoping for an update from the sheriff. I called Caleb's phone but it went straight to voicemail. In the morning as I was getting ready for school, I called the sherif myself.

"Hello?"

"Hi sherif, it's Isabella, you said you'd call me?"

"Uh yes, right, it must have completely slipped my mind."

"Did you find anything?"

"Last night my guys looked all over for a trace of anything, we didn't find nothing."

"What? How about his clothes, or the dead deer, there must have been blood at the very least."

"Nope, nothing."
