The last thing that I could have ever expected to happen while waiting for the doctors update on Holden's condition was for Caleb to waltz in. He was still in his football jersey, gripping his helmet in hand, blood still stained on the sides of his pants and shoes.

"How is he?" he was breathless and if it made any sense to believe at all, he seemed more anxious then I was.

"I-the doctor hasn't said yet, he just went in."

We stared at each other for a moment. Finally, Caleb said," he knows."

"Knows what?" I paused to understand before asking.

"It's why he attacked me on that feild, why he cost us the game, he knows about us."

"Us? Caleb there is no us," how could there be when you spent weeks leaving me in the dark without as little as a text back or a phone call.

"You know what I mean."

"Actually, I don't, Caleb. What does he know, what did you tell him?"

"The kiss, in the classroom."

I was silent for a moment, feeling the dread of my heart dropping to the lowest point of my pit. I could not come up with an answer as to why Caleb would have done that.

"Why the hell would you tell him?"

"It slipped out in the lockers room, he said something dumb about you and I couldn't help it-"

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I felt my legs begin to tremble," what did you say exactly?"

"I didn't tell him everything, just that you're a good kisser."

Fuck, fuck, fuck!

"You should leave."

"Izzy, wait-"

"No, you should leave. The football team is gonna be here any second for Holden and when they find you here, I might tell them to kick your ass for costing them the game."

Caleb stayed in place and I snapped in the sternest of tones," leave."

I watched as he walked away and took a seat on one of the chairs in the waiting area. I hadn't realized that there'd been an older lady nearby who was watching me with what seemed to be a disapproving look on her face.
I let out a sign and dug my face into my hands.
The day that Caleb and I kissed was the day that I had gone to the movies with Caleb. He had asked me about the hickey on my neck, I had just managed to finally convince him that it was him that gave it to me.
He had every reason to believe Caleb. I had no idea how I was going to get out of this.

The rest of the football team came in a horde half an hour later just as the doctor had come out.

"Well?" I pressed, looking into the older man's expressionless face.

"His mouth and teeth need stitches, nothing is broken but his jaw is pretty torn too. He won't need to spend the night, we'll get him stitched up and send him home with some painkillers."
