Isabella
Dimitri had finished wrapping up my wounds and left. There was some reassurance in knowing that despite the fact that he refused to help me save Caleb, that he promised to help keep my mom safe. I knew I had to talk to her eventually, tell her to sell the house and move. Getting the hell out of Eastsound was the only safe thing to do, and I too would run as soon as I was able to orchestrate a plan to save Caleb. I was lying in bed with Holden's computer balanced on my knees googling a list of all the car shops in Beach Haven. There were four in total. I debated getting up now and driving to each single one until I found him.
Dimitri just rescued you from a rogue, give it some time. They won't kill Caleb until they have you anyway.
I folded the paper list and placed it on my nightstand. I laid my head down on the pillow. My injuries really weren't so bad, it was almost like they were healing ten times faster than they usually would. I wondered what else my body was capable of doing as a newborn wolf. I couldn't shut the thoughts off for the life of me. I felt useless lying here waiting for tomorrow. I wondered how Dimitri planned to keep my mother safe. He hadn't said much after that, actually he left in a sort of a hurry. His confession of love beyond shocked me. I could have never predicted that there were deeper feelings involved. In another world, I guess I could see myself with someone like Dimitri. He's handsome and kind and caring, but my soul belonged to Caleb. Like a puzzle that fit, there was no undoing it.
But why had Dimitri been following me for so long? I remembered Caleb mentioning to me that once the rogues knew that I was acquainted with him, that they would be bound to stalk me which had been why he kept an eye out on me for so long, but it didn't make sense why someone from the sheriffs pack wanted to follow me too. I thought more about where I had seen Dimitri prior to the day at the sheriff's office. He seemed familiar to me, I was sure I'd seen him elsewhere. And the shade of his red hair was identical to someone who resembled him.
I suddenly sat up at the first realization. The day that I had gone to Grand Station, in the basement where the lockers were, I was sure I seen him. Right before I ran into Aurora, he walked past me. I hadn't spared him much attention, I was a wreck that day.
I recalled when Aurora called out to someone to start the car. Could she have been talking to him?
I thought harder about everything that he'd said. How did he know about the rogue meeting, and how come the rogue that attacked me backed off so quickly as opposed to fighting with him too? If Dimitri was spying on the meeting to find out where they kept Caleb then why had he refused to help me save him?
I sat up with a gasp that choked me.When Dimitri had followed me to school earlier, he'd mentioned he had to get back to work. He said he worked at a car garage just out of town.
He's been playing you, I thought, you were the only one left besides Caleb that knew who the last descendant is and he knew that. He lured you out with the rogue meeting knowing that you couldn't resist the shift as a newborn on a full moon, he wanted to save you so you confided in him.
It's not Aurora that wanted the descendants dead, it's him. Dimitri was Aurora's brother which meant that the Waru's killed his father too and everything finally made sense. Aurora wanted the land and was willing to do anything for it but for Dimitri, he wanted to completely destroy anyone associated with the Waru blood.
I stood up and grabbed my car keys. If I was right, then Dimitri would be on his way to my mothers house right now. I dialed my mothers phone number but it went to voicemail. I called the sheriff instead as I started my car and to my surprise, he answered on the first ring.
"Isabella?"
"Sheriff, it's Dimitri-"
"What about him?"
