Isabella
Caleb had parked the bike across from the entrance. Without a word, I took off my helmet and followed him towards the door. There was a padlock attached to the door with keys that Caleb used to unlock it. I debated making a run for it suddenly thinking that this would be the perfect setting for a murder. It was raining hard, we were on the edge of Lost Reserve Lake and I doubted anybody from school knew where Caleb lived.
Inside, the setting was a mixture of comfy and cold. A navy sectional took up most of the living room space, there was a wooden coffee table, a floating Television, a kitchen island bordering a small and neat kitchen and stairs that looked like they would rattle when used. I removed the wet hair from my eyes and tossed it behind me to get a better look. The inside of my mouth drooled at the scent, it was perhaps the masculine aura combined with his cologne or body wash. I regretted to know that it will only aid once my imagination gets to work again.Caleb set his keys down on the kitchen island, his black shirt was soaked and once again, clung to his muscular figure like a second skin," do you want me to take your coat?"
I couldn't help but think that it should be illegal to look this good."Um...sure," I mumbled, shrugging it off and handing it to him. He used one of the chairs by the kitchen to display my jacket and flicked on the light switch for the industrial chandelier that hung from the ceiling. He studied my reaction as I took more minutes to peer around. Finally I said," do you...um, live here alone?"
He pulled out the rolled up cardboard from my backpack and stretched it flat on the coffee table," yeah, just me, there's just one bedroom, it's upstairs."
I nodded and examined the art. There were sculptures made of bones, dozens of thick leather bound books and a single picture frame on a desk that homed a picture of four people all bearing the same tattoo as Caleb. It didn't look like a teenager lived here.
"Are those your parents?""That's my mom and dad, that's my little brother, Jacob."
I immediately regretted the words that escaped my mouth without thought," where are they?"
He didn't answer. Instead, Caleb was by the fridge now pouring himself something that looked like whiskey," do you want something to drink?"
"I'm okay, thanks."
I took my seat on the couch and began unpacking the notes for the project. For a split second, I pulled out my phone and noticed that there was no signal.
Caleb took a seat just a few feet from me and pushed a glass of water my way.I cleared my throat and tried to act as normal as possible. I couldn't quite comprehend why I was acting so strange, if there was anybody that could relate to this living situation, it would be me. I could not count the amount of times that I wished to vanish from my parents, and live all alone in a cabin in the middle of nowhere.
Perhaps his parents were worse than mine, much worse.
