(P.S. The story of Akutagwa's past is only partially true, I made the rest up for plot convenience.) ________________________________________________________________________________
Atsushi grunted. He opted to ignore Dazai's heinous remark, straying the conversation elsewhere. "Akutagawa...I want to know what he was like back then. Was he the same person he is now? How much did he change over the time he spent with the part Mafia?"
"Woah, slow down! Questions can only be answered one at a time now." Dazai lightly scolded the curious kitty.
"Akutagawa was that of a strange case.-"
The adjective Dazai used to describe Akutgawa struck as offensive to Atsushi, but in desperation to learn more about Akutagwa's past, he suppressed all violent urges.
"-He was but an orphan, one of many living horrid, poor lives among the slums. He lived with eight other children, including his sister Gin. They survived this harsh poverty, having to steal to eat what little food they could find. Such was the life they endured until Akutagwa reached his 11th birthday. According to Akutagawa, he heard that the Port Mafia had a ship arriving at the slumps docks. In fear, he waited alongside the children he had known his entire, short life, waiting for the end to come and hunt them down. Upon arrival, the Port Mafia tracked down these 'gifted kids' and beat them one after the other to their deaths. Akutagawa watched as his sister was tortured and raped to her ultimate demise. "Dazai consistently let the bitter words flow out, not so much as flinching at them.
Tears began rolling down Atsuhsi's cheeks as the depressing sentences entered his ears. Dazai continued his recollection of Akutagawa's story, holding what seemed to be not a single ounce of remorse for the poor child as he did so.
"As he watched his only kins die before his fearful eyes, Akutagawa decided he wouldn't die at the hands of the Port Mafia. As he scrambled around to find something to fight with, he noticed a pocket knife that had conveniently slipped out of one of the men's clothing. He frantically took hold of the weapon. With all the courage he could muster, he began viciously mauling the vile men to their ultimate deaths. I even heard the kid just mindlessly dug the knife into whatever was in his way, killing a group of innocent bystanders! This killer child earned himself the nickname Diabo, Diablo meaning devil."
Atsushi cupped his mouth in shock at the story that Dazai unfolded. He could picture each paragraph of graphicness in his no longer cleansed mind. It nearly traumatized Atsushi just thinking about the situation. He couldn't even imagine how the feeble child Akutagawa must have felt. He wiped the tears that spilled endlessly out of his eyes, attempting to calm his mind synchronously.
"That's awful...I knew he must've been through some form of pain, but this is such a gruesome childhood to have to go through." Atsushi stated, judging Akutagwa's childhood immensely.
"Obviously the Port Mafia didn't turn a blind eye to the kid. Impressed, they sent me to capture Akutgawa ,and bring back for further examination. " Dazai sighed, complaining as he did so, "It really is a shame Mori didn't let me take him out...I was longing for the thrill of a fight!"
The haunting entity and the phased human stood in a stirring, awkward silence for what seemed like an eternity before Atushsi raised his curious voice. "Why..or rather how...Are you still here? I'd expect that everyone would rather forget you once you died, seeing as the things you did were so abominable. "
Dazai paid no mind to Atushsi's snide lines. "Chuuya Nakahara is why. He is the one that remembers me. However, he will soon die of old age, which will mean-" Dazai stopped himself midsentence, grinning wickedly. "Nevermind that."
Atsuhsi was intrigued by this 'Chuuya', maybe he could get some more information about Dazai and Akutgawa from him.
Dazai sighed momentarily, reminiscing on his fond memories of Chuuya. "He may despise me, but he will never truly be able to let me go. Because in all reality, no matter how much he painfully tries to deny it, he must face the truth. He doesn't loathe me at all. But rather, he hates the fact that he loves me. No matter how much he tries to hide from it, he must accept that we are and always will be partners in crime."
For a split second, Atsushi could have sworn he saw the tiniest bit of pure human emotion coming from behind Dazai's wretched eyes. This emotion could only be described with that damned four letter word.
"So...you two...were in love?" Atsushi-not-so wildly guessed.
"You could say that, but we never saw that way. If anything, our relationship status was almost always limited to two things; Enemies or best friends. Despite frequently attempting to murder one another, we still considered the other the closest person we had. Our bond was mutually unbreakable, but nobody could quite understand it the way we did. A heart for a heart we'd used to say." Dazai shortly entertained Atsushi on his relationship with his presumed soulmate.
Dazai realized his blabbering about the former coworker of his, his cheeks warming up ever so slightly as he did so. "Alas, he quit being a member of the Port Mafia once I died. Nobody seems to know why, but I believe his decision had something to do with my passing. Otherwise, he'd still thrive in the Mafia even today if it weren't for my sudden passing."
Atsuhsi saw a window of opportunity arise, reaching forward his dubious hand to seize it. "You wouldn't happen to know where he lives..Would you?"
Dazai lowered his prideful head, letting his eyes rest while he configurated his following words, "You intend to extract more info. Not to worry, I will lead you to where he resides. But be warned, dig yourself too deep of a hole, and you might fall in. And my dear Atsushi, you never know what beholds you on the other end of that hole."
