Chapter 31 - Stampede

Yoongi was in the Operation theatre performing his 14th surgery in last 72 hours... At present, he was performing the scheduled Deep brain stimulation surgery...

(Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a surgical procedure used to treat several disabling neurological symptoms-most commonly the debilitating motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD), such as tremor, rigidity, stiffness, slowed movement, and walking problems. The procedure is also used to treat essential tremor, dystonia, and focal epilepsy (epilepsy that originates in just one part of the brain). At present, the procedure is used only for individuals whose symptoms cannot be adequately controlled with medications. However, only individuals who improve to some degree after taking medication for Parkinson's benefit from DBS.

DBS involves minimal permanent surgical change to the brain. Although minimally invasive, DBS is a surgical procedure that carries some associated risk. There is a low chance that placement of the stimulator may casue bleeding or infection in the brain. Complications may include bleeding and swelling of brain tissue, headaches, seizures, and temporary pain following the surgery.)

Not only Yoongi but other Hospital staff was also restless... Why? Well, three days ago~

Flashback

Breaking news: People celebrating Halloween festivities in Seoul became trapped and crushed Saturday night as the crowd surged into a narrow alley, killing at least 149 people and injuring over 100 others in country's worst disaster in years...

(This was the exact news at that time... Number of deaths did increased after that but I am gonna stick to this one)

Many dead bodies were laying on stretches... doctors and interns were trying their best to save those who they can... The hallway and hospital beds were painted red as the crimson blood was dripping down people's head, arms, lips, legs, and any body part you could imagine... many were covered in scrapes and bruises... This type of moments are literal nightmares for the doctors and nurses... They don't like seeing people lose their lives like this... But all they can do is try...

Currently, Yeonjun is checking pulse of one of the victims... And suddenly the guy held his wrist making the doctor flich a little "I d-don't wa-want to d-die" the patient was shuttering, haltering breaths as he attempt to control his pain and shock... "We will surely try to save you" Yeonjun said but he and the victim both know that it's a lie... They won't be able to save him... His pulse rate is dropping... he let of Yeonjun's hand and clenched fists releasing tortured sobs... There was the fear in his eyes... fear knowing he will never see another sunrise...

And slowly his eyes closed... the warmth of life stolen by the cold embrace of death... His fists unclenched, the shock... that pain... everything was gone... his family and friends who were watching closely, hoping for a different outcome started crying... just like that another name was added to the list of people died in tragic halloween stampede...

It's been three days since the tragedy happened... Everyone is mourning...

Breaking news: the death toll from the Itaweon crowd in Seoul's Itaweon neighborhood on Monday, putting the number of people killed in the event at 158...

In total, 132 Koreans and 26 foreigners died during the Oct. 29 stampede. Authorities have reported that 130 Koreans have been identified, while the bodies of 24 foreign nationals have been repatriated to their home countries.
