Gabriella Sawyer went through a difficult divorce. Her ex-husband, Adam Visser, was the only man to give her attention in high school. They started officially dating right after graduation and got married two years later.
They were only married for three years before Gabriella decided she had had enough. He spent all their money on drinking and gambling. There were times Adam disappeared for days and came back flat broke. She assumed he was cheating.
Gabriella knew she should have ended things sooner but was afraid. He had manipulated her into believing no one else would ever want her. Eventually, the thought of being by herself for the rest of her life sounded better than being with him.
After the divorce, Gabriella needed a new job for her new life. It was strange to live on her own. She found what seemed to be the perfect office job. Fortunately, one of her new coworkers was someone from her high school, Emily McKay. She was very welcoming and introduced Gabriella to everyone in their department.
Unfortunately, one of them was her new supervisor, Gray Bennett, who was known for his impatience and temper with new employees.
As Gabriella settled in, she was in denial of all the attention she received from another coworker, Garrett Ackerly. Emily encouraged her to accept his offer on a date. It all felt so new to Gabriella.
She was finally happy.
