Mina's POV
The rest of the girls left as they had busy careers and schedules. Luckily there's only one more showing of my ballet and it isn't for a week. So I've stayed behind. I'm glad I'm alone though, I haven't fully processed my new life.
I fidget with the diamond ring wrapped around my finger. What a joke. He didn't love me, yet he wanted to marry me. Despite all that he's done to me. With his half-hearted actions, his carelessness, and his two-timing, my heart still aches for him. I hate it. I can't stop loving him, but I don't want to anymore. I don't want to love.
"Miss Myoui?" Nayeon's doctor appears in front of me
"Yes?"
"She's awake now, you can go ahead and see her"
I lept off the bench, leaving behind the doctor, and rushed in front of the door I had been staring at for the past hours. I breathe in for a moment and exhale as I slowly creak the door open.
There she was. The sun's rays seeped through the linen curtains and cast a warm glow against her body.
"Minaya" she says in her casual, sweet voice
I tighten my lips and hold back from crying. Nayeon smiles at me. Why? Why is she smiling? There are tubes attached to her body. Her face is swollen purple and her body is littered with bruises and dried blood.
"Nayeon" my voice cracks
I pull aside a cushioned arm chair and take a seat next to her. Nayeon watches me the whole time, still smiling.
"Why are you smiling?"
"I can't help it"
I scoff. I have no words for her.
"It's really ironic huh?"
I cock my head and raise my eyebrows. I don't follow.
"For years, I spent a lot of my time in the hospital. But this is the first time I'm the patient"
She has her arm up admiring the gadgets attached to her finger. My heart hurts so much for her.
"Naye--"
"You can go Mina" she interrupts me.
"What?" I furrow my brows
"You don't need to stay with me. I know the pain of watching someone in the hospital. You should go back to Seoul. I'll be discharged soon."
"Are you serious?"
She looks at me surprised.
"Why do keep pushing me away Nayeon?"
"What?"
"I'm here! I've waited hours alone in that ugly corridor to hear the news that your okay and the first thing you do is tell me to go back home??"
"Mina I don't you to see me like this... and you have more important things to worry about"
"No I don't! I don't care. How could anything else be more important than making sure you're okay Nayeon?"
"But your relationship--"
"Screw my relationship! What about you? What about us? You matter to me Nayeon. We're best friends are we not?"
"Of course we are!"
"Then why are you shutting me out? You keep sacrificing yourself for me. You took control of my surprise birthday despite how tired and sick you were. And you came to premiere covering for a terrible boyfriend, who I now know was just a lying cheater."
