Mina's POV
I step out of the elevator and enter the 32nd floor. I open the glazed glass door to see a frustrated figure.
"Dad, what's wrong?"
He sets down the paper he had in his hand and removes his fingers that were just forcefully massaging his forehead.
"My love! Nothing much, do you remember that doctor doing residency who joined last month?"
"Nayeon? Yes"
"Oh yeah you're good friends with her right?"
"Best friends, actually"
"Well your friend is incredibly talented, I offered her a full time position to join the hospital as an actual doctor"
My heart leaps with joy. Nayeon has always been talented, she deserves this.
"But she declined my offer"
"What?"
Why would she ever...
"Declining the offer was one thing but then get this, she resigned"
No. My heart which was previously floating in joy plummets to the cold harsh ground.
"She quit?"
My father hands me the paper that he was looking at. I skim it.

My head spins. I don't understand. She quit? Is this what she was talking about with Jeongyeon yesterday?
Don't tell me she's actually left again. Please, no.
"Did she give you anything else dad?"
"Actually, we cleared out her locker for her and found this. Oh and this was the only other thing inside"
He slides across his desk a small wrapped box. Then he sets down a mint green paper crane next to the present.
I can't believe my eyes right now. My heart aches. I feel tears pooling up ready to fall.
"I think I know who this is for dad"
I take the box and crane and hurriedly turn on my heels.
"Sorry dad, I need to make a call"
"Go ahead, love you Mina"
I power walk out of father's office and call an elevator down. As my hands tremble, I unwrap the small box. It reveals a velvet red jewelry box. I flip open the lid.
That's when my tears fall as I hold back a painful smile.
Inside the box are dainty gold earrings. They're tiny gold hoops with a small chain attached to different charms. The right is a sun and the left is a moon.
