In a desperate attempt to get a starring role in the TV Christmas special that the Glee Club had been offered, Rachel was singing 'River', in the auditorium, hoping to catch Artie's attention. The song was so boring that Venus was sleeping on Sams' shoulder. "Rachel, could you come see me?" Artie asks Rachel. "Yes, Artie, of course. And if this is about my ears, I know that they're a little naked right now, but that's just because I'm waiting for something special. Something that's really gonna sparkle and, you know, catch the light. So what's up?" Rachel tells him, hinting at Finn that she wanted earrings.

"It's not about your ears, it's about your song. It makes me want to kill myself." Artie tells her. "I'm sorry, Joni Mitchell is not depressing, she's emotional." Rachel informs Artie. "It doesn't fit my vision for our Christmas spectacular." Artie tells her. "And what is that exactly?" Rachel asks, sassily. "We begin in the Swiss Alps, in the village of Gstaad, in the perfectly-appointed living room of Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson's chic swank chalet. The tree towering and opulent. The fireplace draped in garlands. The stockings bejeweled. Kurt and Blaine, the perfect hosts have invited their friends to drop in for an evening of Noel Coward-esque banter and fun, happy,

cheer-filled songs." Artie tells them, painting the setting.

"Are you telling me I'm not invited to Kurt and Blaine's for Christmas?" Rachel asks Artie, shocked. "Not unless you pick a happier song. The evening's festivities conclude with Rory, dressed as the Christmas elf Itchy, reciting "Frosty the Snowman." Start with fun, end with fun. That's how you do it, kids." Artie tells them. "The Frosty story isn't fun. At the end, he melts and dies." Sam tells Artie, frowning. I'm rebooting Frosty. In my version, he doesn't melt. He... Well, new pages forthcoming." Artie says.

"What's wrong with a story that's a little sad or a song that's a little depressing? I mean, that's part of Christmas, too, right? It's the sad things that make you remember what's really important." Sam explains. Sorry, Sam, but the phrase is "Merry Christmas," not "morose Christmas." That's the vision. That's what you have to buy into." Artie tells him.

"Well, sorry, Artie, I'm not buying into it. I'm gonna go downtown, see if I can ring one of those Salvation Army bells. Come on, Rory." Sam says, standing up, waking Venus up who claps, thinking that Rachel was done singing. "Oh oops." Venus says, looking down in embarrassment. Sam holds out his hand for her, who takes it.

"Where are we going?" She asks, curiously. "We're gonna go downtown and see if we can ring Salvation Army bells." He tells her with a smile. "Okay!" She says, happily, grabbing her bags. Sam looks at Rory with hopeful eyes. "I should memorize my part, Sam." Rory tells him looking guilty. Sam gives him a disappointed look before sighing and tugging Venus with him.

Quinn had decided to come with Sam and Venus to help at the homeless shelter. Sam and Quinn were at the food service line, scooping food onto plates for the homeless people while Venus was trying to get the janitor off the piano, as he had been playing the same song the whole night. She had told him that someone had spilled something somewhere, and he went to go look for it, leaving the piano unattended. When she noticed that the janitor wasn't watching, trying to look for the nonexistent spill, she jumped on the stool, playing 'It's Beginning To Look Like Christmas'.

When the janitor noticed that there wasn't anything spilled and heard Venus on the piano, he ran straight to the piano trying to push her off. "If you touch me, I will bite off your finger." She says, pointing at him with a warning glare. He finally gave up, throwing his hands up in exasperation. "Thank you!" She says, losing her glare, beaming up at him. She looks back at Sam and Quinn who were watching the whole thing. She gives them a smile, proud of herself, before looking back at the piano.

"She's quite something isn't she?" Quinn chuckles, looking away from Venus and at Sam, who was constantly looking up and smiling at Venus with a love sick expression. "Yeah. She's pretty amazing." Sam smiles proudly, not stopping scooping food as he speaks. "Everyone's been telling me you've been having a rough year, but you seem pretty good to me." He observes. "I'm better. Think I was just stuck focusing on everything I didn't have and none of the stuff that was good. Stuff in the future." She tells him.

"I'm glad you turned it around. You deserve good things, Quinn." Sam tells her with a smile. "I'm trying." She tells him, returning the smile. "Ah, ah, ah, ah! Portion control, Bee Sting. Come on. Guess you're just not used to being on this side of the serving line." Sue interrupts, telling Sam. "Seriously though, I don't think we have enough food for everybody." Quinn says. "Yeah. Economy gets bad, people give less." Sue tells them.

The Glee Club ended up coming after all, letting Venus get a break from playing the piano, going over to Sams' side.

"Hey Sam-I-Am!" Venus says, bouncing over to his locker with her hands behind her back. "Hey V! What's up?" He asks her. "Here." She says handing him what was behind her back. He unwraps the wrapping paper and looks down at what he's holding. "Green Eggs And Ham." He says to himself. "Read the inside!" She says excitedly, bouncing on her feet. He opens it and smiles down at the words. 'Merry Christmas to my very own Sam-I-Am! The best boyfriend and best friend anyone could ask for'. He looks at her with a smile, bringing her into a hug. "Thank you V." He tells her.

"That's not all." She says, going to her locker across from his. She pulls out a baggie of pretzels with white icing and a green m&m's in the middle. "Now you have your own green eggs and ham." She tells him, handing him the baggie. He takes them, laughing. "I love you." He tells her, leaning down to kiss her. "I love you too." She says, pulling back from the kiss. "That wasn't really your present." She informs him. "What?" He asks her. "Yeah, that was just a gag gift." She says, turning around and digging through her locker. "You didn't have to get me a present." He tells her.

"Of course I do. That's how I show my love." She says, waving him off, not looking up from her locker. "Found it!" She says pulling back from her locker and handing him the present. He looks down at it and smiles. It's a football and a venus fly trap charm on a keychain, representing each of them. "I couldn't find the planet, so I went for the next best." She tells him with a smile. "I love it." He tells her. "You could put it on your backpack or your keys." She tells him. "Thank you, baby."
