***2 YEARS LATER***

I was standing with a now 7-year-old Colt, 2-year-old twins and new baby in my arms on the window car. Tanya was also standing with a 7-year-old Timmy and her new husband she met on the train.

"Is he even coming?" Colt asked with an attitude and I sighed.

"He said he would be here. It's family tradition to come to watch us cross the bridge." I said and Colt just groaned and walked to the window. I was cradling my whimpering baby boy when Tanya came walking over.

"Do you want me to watch the kids and you go get him?" Tanya asked and I shook my head.

"I sent a message to him if he can't remember to make it. That's on him." I said and Tanya sighed and look at the twins who were struggling to see out the window, she picked up Lotus and her husband, Desmond, who was a right-hand man to Curtis picked up Lux. I looked at all my kids as my eyes filled with tears, they no longer had a father. The train took over their father. The last time he actually was in our car was 3 months ago when the baby was born. Before that he hadn't been there since he got me pregnant. I sighed and put the sleeping baby in the stroller and looked out the window.

"We are at the bridge." I said and we all intently looked. I had told Desmond and Tanya about the plane so we all watched with bated breath. When we looked at the plane I smiled. It was almost fully visible, a few feet of snow around it still hiding some of it but it was visible. I looked at Tanya and Desmond with a smile. Once we were off the bridge we all headed out of the car.

"He didn't make it. I hate him." Colt said storming away and I sighed dropping my head.

"Can you guys watch everyone? I need to go find Curtis." I said and they nodded. We all headed towards the front of the train. As I was walking I started to feel weak.

"Esme?" Desmond asked seeing me wobble.

"I'm okay..." I said weakly. Desmond put down Lux and Tanya took his hand.

"Esme, let's sit." Desmond said grabbing my arm and helping me stand straight. I shrugged him off.

"I have to get to-..." I was saying before I fell to the ground passing out.

***TANYA POV***

Desmond tried to get Esme to sit down but she wouldn't.

"I have to get to-..." Esme was saying until she collapsed on the floor. She was wearing a dress and I saw the inside of her legs as blood was running down her legs.

"Fuck! Colt, do you know the code to get to your dad in the engine?" I asked and he nodded.

"Run as fast as you can and tell him we have taken your mom to the medical wing." I said. Timmy looked at me. "Go with him." I said and they ran off.

Desmond picked up Esme in his arms and we rushed to the medical wing. I called for our friend to come and get the twins and the 3-month-old son Winter, Curtis's sick joke in a name that Esme and I didn't agree with.

Once we got to the medical wing they took her from Desmond, but we weren't able to go back. We're sitting and waiting for Curtis to show up.

***COLT POV***

I saw my mom collapse and I wanted to scream for her, but Desmond saved her, it should have been my dad, my dad should have been here. Tanya told me to go get dad and Timmy to go with me, so we ran, we ran to the engine, to the front of the train and I put in the code. Once the door opened, I saw dad standing there talking to another man.

"Colt? Timmy? What the hell? You guys can't be here alone." Curtis said pissed off.

"MOM IS DYING!" I yelled. No one knew but I saw the blood, I knew it wasn't good.

"What?!" Curtis asked.

"We were going back from crossing the bridge, mom fell over and there was blood! Mom is dying and you weren't there!" I yelled. Dad was out the door; Timmy and I followed him to the medical wing.

"Is she back there?" Curtis asked panicked seeing Tanya and Desmond.

"Yeah, they wouldn't let us go back. I had Molly come and get the kids; she is in your place. Colt, Timmy go home." Tanya said.

"I'm staying for mom! Dad is never here anymore!" I yelled and he groaned and looked at the ground.

"Colt please...go home." Curtis said calmly.

"No!" I said standing my ground. Before Curtis could protest a nurse came out and looked at Curtis.

"She's awake." The nurse said and Curtis rushed back with them.

***NORMAL POV***

I came to laying in a hospital bed, I had been changed into a hospital gown and hooked up to some machines. Before I could even comprehend what was happening Curtis was rushing into the room.

"What happened?" I asked and he reached me and placed a hand on my cheek.

"I don't know, I just got here." He said and I pushed him off of me and he groaned.

"Damnit Esme, now is not the time to act like this." Curtis said and I sighed as the doctor walked in.

"What is going on?" Curtis asked and the doctor sighed.

"We have to run some test to find out, but it may require surgery if bad enough." The doctor said preparing us for the worst and I sighed.

"What about the kids? I can't be put through a surgery...I have 3 children under the age of 2 to take care of." I said.

"Esme, let's figure out the problem before we panic." Curtis said. I sighed since he was talking to me more like my leader than my husband.

"Get out." I said.

"What?" Curtis asked shocked.

"Get out. I don't need you here. Go run your precious engine since it's all that matters." I said. I turned my head away from Curtis and he sighed but walked out.

❄ ❄ ❄ ❄ ❄

It had been 3 days since I got to the medical wing. I ended up having to have a hysterectomy due to uncontrollable bleeding. I was sleeping in the hospital wing when the door to my room opened. I saw Curtis come walking in and I sighed with a small smile.

"Hey." I said and he walked over giving me a gentle kiss.

"Hey. How are you feeling?" Curtis asked.

"Like I was cut open and had some of my insides removed...oh wait I was." I said and Curtis huffed a laugh.

"Well, you look beautiful." Curtis said and placed a hand on my cheek, and I leaned into his touch.

"Curtis...the plane was fully exposed. It's melting." I said and he sighed but gave a small nod.

"I know but we still can't leave." Curtis said and I groaned. I pushed his hand off my cheek.

"Damnit Curtis! I think it's safe! I think it's time." I said and he shook his head.

"I will make that decision. My train, my choice." Curtis said.

"Yeah, well here is another choice for you. The train or your family. I can't do this anymore Curtis. I had a medical emergency, and you weren't there. My 7-year-old had to come and get you. So, choose Curtis. The train or us." I said and he just sat in shock.
