***CURTIS POV***

I was sitting in my room on the train when there was a knock on the door and then it was opened.

"Mason...to what do I owe this...intrusion...pleasure...?" I asked and she smiled at me.

"Curtis, there is a rumor going around the train and I need to ask you about it." Mason asked sitting down across from where I was. Mason was second in command on the train and made a lot of the decision for the train but had a direct line to Wilford, the head of the train that no one ever seemed to see.

"What rumor would that be?" I asked concerned about what was being said about him. I knew my position on this train could be taken away from me with the snap of a finger.

"That people and the family you are with have tried setting you up on some dates with some very eligible ladies but you keep turning them down." Mason said and I sighed.

"Yeah..." I admitted.

"Can I ask why?" Mason asked and I shrugged.

"No one here appeals to me Mason." I said and she looked at me oddly and then laughed.

"I don't mean to be so rude dear but you don't have much of a choice. I mean its slim pickings." Mason said and I nodded.

"That's the problem though Mason, there is someone I'm interested in..." I said.

"Who Curtis?" She asked.

"Her name is Esme, she has a son Colt, her husband passed away from what I have heard." I explained and Mason nodded and gave a slight smile.

"Well I must say I thought I knew almost everyone on the train but I have never heard of Esme." Mason said.

"You wouldn't have..." I trailed off.

"Why's that?" Mason asked.

"She isn't from the front of the train. She is in the back." I said looking at the floor.

"Curtis..." Mason said and I groaned.

"I know, I know. I know it's not right we don't mix the train but she is the only one I could see a life with." I said and Mason groaned standing up.

"We will find you a girl Curtis, you will not mix." Mason said.

"I don't want anyone from our side of the train." I said standing up to her.

"You seem to forget Curtis you are on the front of the train out of the kindness of yours friends parents hearts..." Mason said.

"And if I hadn't been brought up here I would have been on the back of the train and met Esme. It's meant to be her." I said and Mason shook her head.

"I would want to see her first before I make any decision. We have to make sure that she could be front of the train material. I would also have to get Wilford's answer. He makes all decisions Curtis." Mason said and I nodded.

"I know he does. And how would you meet her?" I asked.

"Well, it's been a while since I've been to the back of the train to see everyone. You go with me and point her out to me." Mason said and I nodded.

"When?" I asked.

"Tomorrow." Mason said. Nothing else was spoken and she left me room and I smiled. There was a chance I could get Esme and Colt out of the back of the train giving them a better chance at life.

***ESME POV***

I was sitting in my bunk a day after Curtis gave me the pills to take and I felt so much better. I was playing go fish with Timmy and Colt while Tanya took a nap.

"EVERYONE LINE UP!" I heard the guard yell and I groaned.

"Tanya." I said once I stood up and gently shook her.

"I heard." She said getting up. She took Timmy's hand and I took Colts as we walked up front.

"Mama, it's Curtis." Colt said in a quiet voice and I nodded.

"We don't say anything to him yet okay..." I said and he nodded. I saw Mason standing there. I had only seen her a few times when we first got on the train and she always made it known we were lower than low. I looked at Tanya and she shrugged. I saw Mason whisper something to Curtis and he nodded towards me. She looked at me and then down to Colt. She sighed and looked back at Curtis.

"Curtis, go do the bunk checks and make sure everyone is here to hear me." She said and Curtis walked through the crowd and then to the back of the train area where we slept.

"What the hell?" I whispered. Mason then looked at everyone else.

"Hello back of the train people." Mason said. "I thought it was time for another visit since I heard lately there is some disgust with the bricks we are feeding you." Mason said and I felt my stomach turn. Curtis came back as he walked past me he gave my free hand that wasn't holding onto Colt a small squeeze as he passed. As Mason talked I just looked at her not even really listening. She wasn't saying anything to me that I cared to hear. I then looked and saw Curtis watching me and I rolled my eyes at Mason and he smirked with a small nod. Soon she was done talking and we were released. I went to walk back to my bunk.

"Mama, I want to see Curtis..." Colt said.

"This wasn't a normal visit sweetie, maybe some other time." I said and we got back to the bunk. I saw my makeshift pillow had been moved and I looked to see a baggie of cookies and a note.

-Esme,
Cookies are for Colt and maybe even you if you want some. Please meet me at the front of the train tonight. I would love to talk to you. I need to talk to you. Please be there.
Curtis-

I looked at Tanya and showed her the note.

"Girl you better go up there tonight. Timmy and Colt can bunk together so you don't wake him getting up." Tanya said and I sighed. I looked up front and I saw Curtis still standing there and I gave a small nod. Once he got my confirmation he walked away with another guard.
