Chapter Twenty-Two || Waiting for the Opening

!!Fire, fighting, breaking of bones!!

Dream awoke the next day with a groan and a yawn, his limbs were sore from the battle, and he had a headache from Lady Death adjusting his memories again.

Because of the... Incident from six years ago, Dream had agreed to let Lady Death use some of her magic to fill the memories. Every so often, however, she'd have to redo the magic when it began to fade.

The magic always left him with a headache when he awoke, and normally XD's magic would dull it subconsciously. But, because of the protection necklace that XD had given him, it blocked some types of magic from affecting Dream.

He sat up from the wooden cot attached to the wall and massaged his head, he heard Technoblade roll over whilst mumbling something from across the room.

The cell was wooden and small-ish. The ground was made out of dirt with two wooden shelf-like board attached to the wall by thin and poorly made chains. There was a tiny hole in the wall that looked like it was a window.

Dream got up and looked out the window that might've just been a hole in the wall. People in armour were rushing around with the sun was well into the sky- were they going to get lunch? No one had awoken them and there were no traces of food by the entrance.

Dream sighed before going to sit down on the cot, it rattled dangerously and awoke his cell mate. The prince groaned again before cracking an eye open.

"Mornin' roomie." The prince muttered tiredly, Dream sighed as he cast a glance at the hole, "Good afternoon is more accurate." Dream corrected him. Techno groaned loudly in response.

"Actually? Did we get food yet?" He asked as he threw an arm over his eyes. Dream shook his head before realizing that Techno couldn't see him. "Nope." Dream said, "Nothing, let's hope Karl stops by to drop some off." He added with crossed fingers.

Techno rolled onto his side again to face Dream. "Let's hope that annoying General doesn't stop by to ask us to join him- the audacity of that man." Techno added onto to Dream's statement.

Dream nodded, "I know right, how'd he even believe that it'd work? Did he really think that we'd turn on the Arctic that easily?" Dream exclaimed as he fell back onto his cot with a sigh.

"I miss the Arctic- it's too... green here." Dream sighed, "I miss Sapnap and George, they're probably going to kill me when I get back." He said with a frown. "What about you?" He asked Techno.

Techno hummed for a second, "My family's going to ground me, Wilbur's probably going to make Phil send me to my room again." He said with a small smile, he heard Dream laugh in response.

"That was my punishment last time I got in trouble." Dream wheezed at that one, Techno was a prince- why would he get sent to his room as a punishment? "When'd that happen? And why to your room?" Dream wheezed, Techno's smile dropped guiltily.

"Six years ago, he'd decided that punishment when we were eight after I disappeared and kept it for ten years." Techno told him wistfully, he heard Dream wince and decided to change the subject.

"What'll XD do to you once you return?" The prince asked, Dream exhaled and ram a hand through his hair, "Hell- XD's going to call Lady Death on me, she'll be the worst." Dream complained.

"XD's already grounded, and after she finds out about this? I'll probably be cut off from my magic for a year or something." He added, Techno looked at him curiously, "You have magic?" He asked.

Dream nodded, "Not too much, as I am the second youngest in my family, but enough." He began to explain, "XD's a god, so he has the most and has no restrictions. My elder brothers are twins, so they can do a little less than XD, but they share their magic so have more restrictions than anyone else."
