-The next day-Following a map was surprisingly hard, in Dream's opinion, maybe it was the fact that his leg was broken, or maybe it was because the people he was travelling with were always stressed.
Techno had also run calculations on how long it would take them to get back at their speed while taking the fastest route. Dream had groaned loudly when he'd announced that it would take around five more days.
They moved as fast as they could though, Dream had grown used to the crutch and was getting better at avoiding uneven ground and visible tree roots. Karl had filled up the silence with stories as well, Techno had occasionally told his own- but they were mainly mythology.
Dream took a drink of water from his flask while Karl spoke. "And then, Sir Billiam led the final guest into a hidden room with an infectious, mind-controlling egg in it!" He announced spookily, Techno gasped loudly and whipped his head towards Karl.
Dream found it funny how invested he was in the story, but he couldn't blame him. Karl was a creative person with great skills when it came to storytelling.
"No way! An egg was controlling them?" He gasped as he turned back to the map and continued leading them. He crossed off another section they'd crossed through, Karl nodded excitedly.
"Yes! And then he turned towards the final visitor an told him..." Karl's voice trailed out as Dream looked around. The nature outside of the Arctic was beautiful, but he'd always favour the view from the castle bridge.
Dream stumbled over a root at that point, he quickly regain his balance, but his fellow travellers looked at him worriedly and stopped walking. "I'm fine!" He insisted as he began catching up to them. "Let's keep going! We need to get home as soon as possible." He pointed out, Techno shook his head and kept going.
Dream sighed. They'd lost nearly everything. Their horses were gone, Dream had left his sword at the burnt wreckage of the human camp (He swore he could still see the smoke in the distance), and his mask was gone, as was Techno's golden crown.
Dream fazed back into reality as Karl's story had ended. "It really ended like that? The guest was sacrificed?" He said with bewilderment. Karl nodded, "But his sacrifice postponed the Egg's takeover for another few hundred years or so! He didn't die in vain." Karl explained, Techno's eyes were wide but he nodded with agreement.
"Okay, my turn!" He exclaimed, "Hm, I'll tell you the story of..." he thought for a moment, "Theseus! My brother loved that story, and it's his nickname." Techno told him with a smile, Karl squealed with excitement as the story began.
"This story takes place in Ancient Greece. Theseus was born in the Greek city of Crete which had a labyrinth that had a Minotaur..." He began, Karl listened with wide, excited eyes as the Prince told a story about a boy slaying a Minotaur.
Dream smiled at his friends though, they were distracting themselves while on this horrible trip. Dream desperately wanted a horse at this point, it'd be so much faster if they had three or two- hell, they could've only had one and would still make it to the castle faster with Dream going the same pace as them.
He sighed and quickly caught up to his friends again when he realized he was falling behind- again. Techno had reached the part where Theseus was sailing to the isle of Scryos, Karl had already gasped at many parts in the story at this point.
After a bit of speaking Techno reached the end of the story, "...And King Lycomedes cast Theseus from the top of a cliff!" He finished, Karl gasped again, causing Techno to grin.
"The exact reactions of my brother! He gets confused sometimes when I call him Theseus, but our other brother, Wilbur, just laughs when that happens." Techno recalled affectionately with a smile, Karl grinned as well.
