I've survived a lot by closing in but with you, I'm open and grateful
I'm grateful for the smiles, the kind words, the warm embraces
I'm grateful for your humor, your affirmations, your graces
I'm grateful for your love, and it's comforting pace
I'm grateful for the want to heal damages left in others' wake.
But I'm also open, unguarded and afraid.
I can't handle the wreck of another train
I can't handle the warm hearth turning into a raging flame
I can't handle you loving me today, and tomorrow a girl by another name
I can't handle the sadness, the grief, the blame.
So if you're going to love me, love me gently.
I'm fragile and hurting and can't handle the pain.
