i knock on joshua's front door. he opens it with a smile.
"would you like to come over to me and ashley's house for thanksgiving?"
"yes.. i would love to," he smiles, grabbing his coat.
"i'm glad."
"can i grab your hand?" he asks, shutting his front door.
"go for it," i reply, watching as our feet crush underneath the snow together.
he grabs my hand and i watch as our fingers and palms fit perfectly together.
he looks at the sky in front of us.
"the weather is so wonky here, tyler, huh?"
"truly. today is thanksgiving and it's been snowing since a few days before halloween."
"oh..! happy thanksgiving, tyler."
"happy thanksgiving, joshua."

"honey! i'm home!"
"ah. hello tyler. joshua."
"hi, ashley."
"hey, how do you feel about ham?"
"turkey is better."
"hahaha. i win tyler."
"fuck you, joshua. you should be on my side."
"i didn't even know i was on a side."
"well, you should've been on mine, regardless."
"you're joking.. right?"
"of course. turkey is pretty good. but i prefer ham. ashley and you prefer turkey i guess."
"the turkey will be done soon."
"okay. i'm sitting in the middle of you two."
"go ahead," ashley and joshua say at the same time.
they laugh a little together while i sit in the middle seat, not letting go of joshua's hand at all. if i let go, i'm not sure i'll have the courage to grab it again.
"you two are holding hands," they point out.
"yes, we're taking our relationship slowly together."
"good good. relationships are best taken slowly. if you take them too fast you might miss something. and that could be your downfall."
"wise words from a wise person," i smile.
the oven beeps and ashley takes out the turkey.
"FOOD'S DONE," they say and 'slam' the turkey in the middle of the table.
"do you guys pray?"
"no," i say.
"good. neither do i."
"happy thanksgiving guys," ashley says.
"happy thanksgiving," i reply.
"happy thanksgiving," joshua gives ashley a smile. not the same one he reserves for me. and then he looks at me.
with his special smile.
