Harry's POV:
Katie got up from the table and ran off.
"We're sorry about Katie," Matty told me.
"I think she's just really stressed over the fact that mum and dad are pretty much forcing her to take care of us while they get drunk all night," Bradley said. Then I saw Trevor cover up Bradley's mouth. Was I not supposed to know that?
"Are your parents ever home?" I asked, hoping I wasn't starting something bad.
"Yeah, only in the morning when they take us to school," Trevor said.
"Do they...you know, hurt you?"
"Mum and dad? No, not us boys anyway." Not them? So they were hurting Katie?
"What do they do to your sister?" I asked. I wanted to know so I could find a way to help her.
"Katie doesn't want anyone to know. We promised we wouldn't tell anyone," Matty said. What were Katie's parents doing to her?
"Is it really bad?"
"If you count--" but Matty's mouth got covered by Bradley's hand.
"No Bradley, let Matty finish," I said. Bradley took his hand away from Matty's mouth.
"I'm not sure what they do, all I know is that she comes into our room crying with cuts and bruises all over. It's like she's afraid to be in her room at night because she's afraid they'll do more to her. She knows that they won't hurt her if she's near us," Matty said. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I stood up from the table and looked at Katie's brothers.
"Her room is just down the hall...if you're wondering," Bradley said. I left the boys in the kitchen to finish eating as I headed for Katie's room. Her door was cracked open a bit; I could slightly see her face down on her bed.
"Katie, can I come in?" I asked as I pushed the door open a little further.
"Sure Harry, you can come in," she said when she lifted her face off her bed. I walked in and sat on her bed by her feet. She had dropped her head back onto het bed; I couldn't see her face to know if she was crying.
"Your brothers told me what your parents do to you," I said as I placed my hand on her back. I felt her tense up when I did.
