Max didn't want to share the news with anyone else other than Roxanne. He didn't want to jump to conclusions and make the wrong assumptions. Roxanne would know what to do.
He had called her and told her to meet him at the library. He knew they would have some sort of privacy there, away from his friends. He was so nervous. He had had time to think about the situation on his walk over here, and he couldn't help but think that Mona had something to do with the Ghouls. What did she mean that she wanted to keep him safe? Safe from who?
He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice when Roxanne approached him, covered in snow. Her face was red from the cold, the tip of her nose a light pink shade. He jumped, startled.
"Everything okay?" She asked, noticing how stiff he had become. He was glad she was finally here. His thoughts were running wild in his head. He needed to let them out.
"No," he responded, taking out the little journal from her pockets. He noticed how Roxanne's eyes opened wide when she recognized her journal.
"How did you get this?" She asked, taking it from him. She flipped through it. "I had lost this back in October,"
"I found it in Mona's room." He said. "Don't worry, I didn't go through it. I read one entry and knew it was yours. I didn't know,"
Roxanne stayed quiet, rereading her old entries.
"She must have taken this the night I got drugged," she whispered to herself.
"What do you mean you got drugged?" He asked concerned.
"The day y'all found me at the library," she said, closing the book shut. "This was taken from my backpack. I couldn't remember anything after Mona had given me the tea, so I assumed she had put something in it. I was right. The next day I ended up getting some tests done which proved that I had been drugged,"
Max shook his head. Who was he really dealing with? Who was Mona?
"I haven't told anyone about the results. I told Jasmine and Bradley that I had my assumptions about her but I didn't tell them I went as far as to get tested. I'm sorry I kept that from you,"
"No, you don't owe me any explanation," he said, reaching over to hold her hand. "I should have trusted what you guys were saying, I guess I was just blind and wanted anything to distract me from you."
He noticed her smile and he couldn't help but give her a kiss. This woman who knew him so well, who only wanted what was best for him, was his. He wouldn't mess this up again.
"I think she is involved with the Ghouls," he said quickly, wanting to get the words out. "I found her journal too and this,"
He handed Roxanne the note from the doctor. As she skimmed it he told her everything, about the miscarriage at seven weeks, about the new guy she was seeing and how she only cared about his safety. Once he was done Roxanne's face had gone pale.
"But she was with us that night," she whispered. "She was at the asylum,"
"I know, but I'm not sure how it all relates. Maybe she wasn't involved with them then? I doubt she would put herself in danger like that," Max said, trying to make sense of it all.
"You're right, she didn't want to go in the first place," Roxanne said.
Max tried to remember. She didn't want him to go. She wanted him to stay with her. He felt goosebumps begin to form on his arms.
"No, she didn't want us to go, as in me and her. She didn't care what you guys did." He said.
"But it was Tony who suggested we go," Roxanne said, "Not Mona,"
Max shook his head. This was all too confusing. "I don't know what to think anymore,"
"I don't either," she said. "I don't want to assume anything without facts," Roxanne said. "But one thing is certain, Mona lied about her pregnancy, and she could be related to the Ghouls in some way. If that's what she meant by keeping you safe,"

Max walked hand in hand with Roxanne, bracing the snow storm that was certainly making their way to their little college town. He couldn't believe his luck. Despite all the awful things that have happened in the past few months, he was happy that it all led back to this moment.
They had no destination in mind. They just walked in silence, enjoying each other's company.  Since the death back at the guy's dorm, Max had been hesitant to stay there longer than was necessary. He was already thinking about moving. His old frat house wouldn't be that bad- they had gotten into the dorms right?
He felt Roxanne shift her weight on him and looked down. Her face was red and she was mailing up at him.
"What?" He asked playfully, nudging her back.
"This is where I stood when I saw you win your first X-Games," she said, her gloved hand pointing to the large dark monitor that could be seen over the stadium.
Max remembered that day so vividly.
"It's still a shock that you were there," he said, pressing his lips to hers. They were warm, so familiar. He felt her hands grasp him around the neck and pull him tighter towards her.
The kiss was so intense, making Max feel lightheaded. This kiss was not like the ones they shared before. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her vigorously. He could swear he could feel that summer breeze around him... that same breeze he felt during the X-Games. He broke the kiss and looked back at the stadium.

He led her down its familiar corridor and through the locker room that he had shared with his teammates so many times.
Of course it was empty right now. He could feel his heart beating in his chest. What was he doing?
"Why are we here?" Roxanne asked him, looking around.
He didn't say anything but picked her up and began kissing her again, remembering that nothing was holding him back anymore. He didn't have Mona to worry about anymore, Roxanne was his and he was in love with her.
She pulled away, her brown eyes looking at him with such intensity that he had to catch his breath. She was also panting, aware that they were so close to each other, and so alone.  Her hair was framing her face now, her cheeks pink but not from the cold. He could feel the heat radiating from them. He gently touched her cheek and put her down, not wanting to scare her off. He had to control himself.
"I'm sorry, I guess I got carried away," he said. "It was cold out there, and I didn't want out moment to end,"
"Don't be sorry," she said "I'm glad you brought us here,"
He was surprised when she pushed him down on one of the benches and straddled him, wrapping her arms around him. For a moment they didn't talk, just stared into each other's eyes. He had never felt something so intimate- he actually felt his face burn.
She leaned down to kiss him and he couldn't help but move his arms to help her take off her jacket. He did the same and he could see that she had goosebumps running up her arm.
"If you're cold we can keep the jacket on," he said, breaking the kiss. She shook her head.
Somehow he found himself wanting to kiss every inch of her. It was the one body he dreamt of every night, the one body that had always been so far from his grasp.
She gasped as he kissed her chest, and it made him smile. He could feel her heart beating out of her chest.
"I love you," he said, wanting her to hear it. "I love you so fucking much,"
"I love you too," she whispered into his ear. Something in him broke. He had to have her.

Roxanne held her breath as he entered her, knowing that this was different than all the other times she had slept with someone.
She loved this man and that made everything so different. She felt like she was going to burst from just the thought of it.
How had they gotten this far? She had no idea this was going to happen today, but she was glad it did. Mona wasn't wedged in between them anymore. It was as if a chain had been broken.
He had her pressed against the lockers, the cold metal against her bare back making her sense heightened. She wasn't cold, not anymore. She was sweating, not knowing how long they had been at this.
She closed her eyes, knowing release was coming and soon. His strong hands were holding her in place as they moved as one, knowing that she couldn't be without him anymore. She was his, in body and soul.
She screamed his name out as she felt the build-up overwhelm her. She had never experienced this before. He didn't stop and she didn't want him to. She didn't care either that none of them had brought protection.
She felt him tense up and knew that he was close. She looked up at him and forced him down on her, kissing him with all the passion she felt. She wanted him to enjoy this as much as she was.
"Roxanne, I'm -I'm close," he said.
"Don't pull away," she said, holding him tight.
"But-"
"Don't," she said and felt him tense up and bury his head between her breasts.
He didn't pull away from her while he caught his breath. She began to giggle, not knowing why.
"Was I that bad?" He joked, easing her onto her feet.
"No, no," she said, feeling her legs tremble. "I just can't believe that's what I've been missing,"
She saw a huge grin spread across his face. "Me and you both. You're amazing, Roxanne,"
She shrugged.
"Seriously, aren't you worried about what we just did?" He asked, grabbing his large coat nearby and wrapping her in it.
"No, I don't want to have any more regrets about us. Whatever happens, happens. I love you, Max," she said and tiptoed to kiss him on the cheek. She was surprised to see him turn red, after everything they had done.
"I'm never going to get used to you saying that," he said, holding her in his arms. "Never,"
