[Tabitha POV]

It was finally time, Miss Mystic Falls, I knew I wasn't winning, but it was still fun to take dancing lessons and prepare my entire look for the day. Another reason I wouldn't  win would be due to the fact I would be glaring at my partner the whole time. Tyler Lockwood had agreed to be my partner, sanctioned by his mother last year, and neither of us could back out now.

The situation with Stefan also had me on edge. I was asking for updates from Damon after seeing his shift in attitude from the Founder's Event to dance practice with Elena and apparently, Stefan still hasn't quit human blood yet, which meant he couldn't fully be trusted. Damon also confided in me John Gilbert had a ring like Alaric's ring, which prevented death by a supernatural's hand. When I then asked how he knew, I pretended to grow upset that he, once again, decided to kill someone without thinking about the consequences. I've been ignoring his calls since.

Matt was still sleeping at my house, even though his mother was already gone, and Tyler hadn't figured out how to apologize yet. At night, after I would coax Matt to sleep, I would call Katherine and finalize plans for the elimination of the remainder of the Tomb Vampires. Apparently she was sending in another agent of hers to help with procurement of the other Gilbert device and wanted it to be a surprise for John Gilbert too.

It was difficult being unable to truly trust anyone, but I made my bed and the hour would soon strike and I would have to lie in it, but I could worry about that after the pageant. I had enough paid time off saved up that I didn't have to work on the day, but Matt could not afford that luxury and despite being bummed about not being Caroline's partner, he wanted to avoid Tyler more.

On the day of, I had just changed into my lavender dress, when I noticed Damon in the reflection of the mirror, I frowned, taking a seat and focused on places the final touches on my make-up, "How long are you planning to lurk as my shadow when I clearly don't want you around?"

"As long as I need to to ensure your safety," Damon answered, taking a few steps closer.

I stood up and whipped on him, "From your brother? Or from you?"

"Tabitha, I'm sorry. Please forgive me," Damon begged, "please understand."

I shook my head, "I can't understand Damon. I can't understand someone who has made a thousand promises to me and has broken every single one. I don't understand how you can look me in the eyes right now and beg for my forgiveness when I've given it so many times already. I'm broken, Damon. You broke my heart and my trust." Tears welled in my eyes, but I shook it off, "I'm angry Damon and I have every right to be and if you have any care for me, at all, you will leave me alone so I can heal. Please leave."

Damon absorbed my words and nodded before silently retreating from the room. I turned back to the mirror, fixing any minute details before Carol Lockwood began gathering everyone to begin the procession. I looked around noticing Amber was missing and my blood ran cold Amber wasn't a member of the Founding Families and therefore wasn't being secretly fed vervain making her susceptible to compulsion. I feared the worst, but couldn't run to go find her as I heard my name from downstairs by the MC, "Miss Tabitha Fell, escorted by Tyler Lockwood."

I took a breath plastering on a fake smile before descending the stairs, I looked down the line of waiting escorts as I looped my arm in Tyler's elbow, and didn't see Stefan, further frightening me fearing for Amber's safety. Tyler must have sensed my panic as he asked, "Are you ok?"

"No," I answered, "I think I'm having a panic attack."

Tyler clutched my hand tighter, "Hey, focus on me. You can freak out after the dance ok?"
