Wonderful Christmas Morning

I figured that it would happen, but I still groaned awake as Clark jumped on top of me, "Mommy! Wake up! It's time for presents!"

I hissed, "Ugh, okay, I'm coming."

Clark sped out of the room, probably heading to the guest room next to wake up Matt. I climbed out of bed and wrapped a robe around my vintage blue nightgown and set off downstairs. Grammie and Pappy were already sitting on the couch with my parents. My mom got up to hug me, "Merry Christmas, sweetheart."

I hugged her back, "Merry Christmas, mom."

I hugged everyone else before Matt finally came downstairs, being dragged by my son. I gave him a hug, "Morning Matt, Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas, Tabs. Merry Christmas, Mr. & Mrs. Fell."

My dad nodded, "Merry Christmas, Matthew."

As we began opening presents I received texts from Caroline, Bonnie, Elena and Jeremy, saying that they loved their gifts. I got a call from Tyler and a call from Stefan, saying the exact same thing.

I got a couple gifts from everyone as well; shoes, dresses, jewelry. But the best gift was from Clark and my grandparents, a new video camera along with a terabyte of portable storage space. Everyone then got dressed for the Fell Family tradition; Christmas Morning Breakfast at the Grill.

The entire Fell Family practically took over and reserved the Grill every Christmas morning to sit, chat and enjoy one another's company. Now I may not have liked my cousins, or second cousins, but seeing the entire family and extended family gathered in the Grill was quite the sight to see. I took a picture of it all, and treasured that meal, knowing Grammie and Pappy would be leaving right afterward with Clark. Aunt Meredith was there and gave me a present. My uncle, Thomas Vincent Fell III was there, although he doesn't call himself a Fell anymore. He goes by Tripp Cooke, an unfortunate nickname given to him and his mother's maiden name. Not a lot of people liked him, but I always went out of my way to give him a hug and ask how he was doing. Then there was Great Uncle Tobias, Pappy's brother, Head of the Historical Society, who bored me every week with his stories and knowledge of history, but every once in a while, I'd hear a good diamond in the rough story about town history.

After breakfast, Matt stood with me as Clark was loaded in the back of my grandparent's car and driven away. It hurt every time I saw them drive away, knowing it would be a long time before I saw my son again. After pulling myself together I pushed Matt, "Go on."

"What? Where?"

"Where else? Go surprise your girlfriend."

"Are you sure? I could stay a little longer."

I shook my head, "No, I'm okay, Matt. Go."

He took of running down the street as I got in my car and drove home. It was deathly quiet as I packed up the Christmas tree, ornaments, and lights. As soon as the decorations were put away and I had cleaned every inch of the house, I went down to the basement to take inventory of my weapons and tend to my vervain garden.

I had amassed quite an arsenal in such a short amount of time and was slowly teaching myself how to use each weapon to it's deadliest degree.

In the Japanese category, I had a katana, kendo sword, a pair of kammas, a pair of sais, a pair of nunchucks, and a bo staff. From China I had a Dao, or broadsword, a Jian, also known as a straight sword, and a pair of Chinese ring daggers. From the Medieval Era of Europe I had a longsword, a greatsword, a mace, a flail, two single head axes, one double headed axe, and a spear.

For long range weapons I had acquired a short bow, a longbow, a crossbow, a couple standard wooden bullet guns as well as a couple of shotguns, and a glock from Sheriff Forbes's gun safe; with plenty of ammunition for every single one. And to top it all off, handcrafted stakes, my flask of vervain, and my new vampire mask.

I had re-enforced the locks and hinges on the basement door and cemented a metal chair to the floor in the center of the room with chains ready to attach to wrists and ankles of future vampire victims, of course, it still needed testing. I also installed a security system outside and inside the house that fed the footage to my phone and laptop, sending me alerts of anything abnormal. After everything that happened with Uncle Logan, I wanted to make sure my home was safe.

After making sure everything was in order, I went back upstairs and began packing for my flight tomorrow morning with Damon to Vegas for New Years.
