I woke up to my alarm clock ringing and began my morning jog. After making breakfast and going upstairs to get ready, I got a call from Caroline and put her on speaker, "Hey girl, what happened to you at the party last night? You totally disappeared!"

I shrugged, "Sorry Care, I wasn't feeling too well. Why? Did I miss anything?"

"Oddly yes, Vicki was attacked by some kind of animal."

"What?! Is she okay?"

"I don't know the details, but she's apparently still at the hospital and breathing." I breathed a sigh of relief as Caroline continued, "On a completely unrelated note, I met someone."

I smirked, "Really? Jock or Junkie?"

She scoffed and I could practically hear her roll her eyes through the phone, "Neither, as I was sobering up at the Mystic Grill. There was this tall, dark and mysterious guy a couple tables away who was totally checking me out."

I frowned, "Older guy?"

"Yeah!"

I sighed, "Care, I don't think that's a good idea. I think you should find someone closer to our age."

"There's no one our age worth dating!"

I took the phone into the bathroom, fixing my hair, "I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that, there are plenty of cuties our age. Or are you completely ignoring the obvious choices?"

"Well then, you date one of them!"

"Don't feel like it. My kid comes first, I can't distracted from my busy schedule for some guy."

"Whatever, I'll see you at school."

"Bye Care! See you at school." I hung up and made my way downstairs, driving to the hospital first. I found Vicki's room only to find Jeremy Gilbert standing outside her room. I walked up to him, "Hey Jeremy, I'm sorry about what happened to Vicki." He nodded and I touched his shoulder, "You know she's tough. She's gonna pull through."

Suddenly a nurse approached us, "You two can't be in here. Visiting hours don't start until 9."

I nodded and Jeremy asked, "I just...how is she?"

"She's lost a lot of blood."

I frowned at her vague answer and Jeremy pushed, "Yeah, but she's gonna be okay, right?"

The nurse then rudely ushered us toward the door, "She needs her rest. So you come back later. Come on."

As soon as we got outside I seethed, "Geez what a rude woman." I touched Jeremy's shoulder, "Hey? Need a ride to school?" All he did was nod and I smiled, "Alright, hop in."

The ride was silent and the boy didn't even thank me when we arrived, but I knew he was in an ever worse place than his sister, so I wasn't going to push him. I simply made my way to my locker and first class. Mr. Tanner called out the lovebirds seated behind me during his lecture and I snickered.

I found Matt later and gave him a hug, "Hey, I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you when Vicki got hurt."

He hugged me back, "It's okay, I figured you left because you weren't feeling well."

I released him, and placed a hand on the side of his face, "My door is always open if you need to talk, understand?"

He smiled, removing my hand, "Yes ma'am, now will you quit fussing over me. I'm not your kid."

"Too bad, sonny. I worry and care too much about you to not fuss over you. Did you call your mom?"

"Left a message, but I doubt she'll come running to the rescue."

I sighed, "I'm making dinner for you tonight." I put my finger up to stop him from objecting, "Ah, ah. No excuses just tell me what you're craving and I'll make it."

"Some spaghetti and meatballs would be nice."

I smiled, "Done, I'll come by tonight after the hospital closes because I know you want to be with Vicki. See ya later Matt."

"See you later mom."

I rolled my eyes at him before going to my next class. At the Grill I noticed Caroline psych up Elena to do something and she left in a hurry so I asked, "What's up with Elena?"

Caroline smirked, "She's gonna go tumbling with Stefan."

I groaned, "Ugh, maybe a little less imagery, Care? Well, I wish her the best of luck. Want refills girls?"

Bonnie smiled, "Always."

After my shift at the Grill, I let mom know that I was cooking for Matt and to not expect me until late. I knew where the spare key was and let myself in. The house was quiet and dreary. I still had several hours before the hospital let out, so I did a little Snow White cleaning before making dinner.

Suddenly my phone rang as I was setting the table and the CallerID read, 'Master'. I don't know what compelled me to answer, but I did, "Hello?"

"Ah wonderful, just checking to see if the compulsion was working. So, tell me your name and why you answered?"

"I'm Tabitha fell and I answered because you told me I had to."

"And what are you gonna do after I hang up?"

"Forget this conversation ever happened."

"Good girl, now I need to know what you know about the supernatural."

I answered monotonously, "I don't believe in the supernatural. It's all fiction. The only thing that exists in the single life every human lives."

"Mmmhmm, very morbid. But that also means that you're not gonna be much help in getting me in with the Founder's Council. So, I want you to keep a close eye on Stefan Salvatore, especially his relationship with Elena Gilbert and you will report back to me whenever I call. Well, goodbye."

I heard a click and looked at my phone, "Stupid prank callers."

As soon as I finished setting the table, Matt got home. "Welcome back Matt."

I heard him chuckle, "Smells good, Tabs."

I nodded, "Been practicing, considering that I'm gonna have to support Clark on my own and it would not be good for his health if he only ate Mac and Cheese or fast food." We sat down and started eating, "How's Vicki doing?"

"Well I went to go see her today and she totally freaked out on me. And I could've sworn that I saw Stefan at the hospital too."

I cocked an eyebrow, "Mysterious new guy, who also happens to be my locker neighbor?"

"Yeah, what's you're impression of him Tabs, and be honest."

I set down my silverware, "I think he's a nice guy, and he was kind enough not to judge me about having a six-year-old kid. But honestly, I don't know enough about him to come to a decisive conclusion." I sighed, "If he bothers you so much Matt, then just talk to him. Come to your own conclusion."

We finished dinner and I started getting the dishes cleaned, and Matt tried to stop me, "You don't have to do that Tabs, I got it."

I took the plate back, "I  invited myself over and offered to make you dinner, so I'll clean up. You've been really stressed lately and need to relax. Besides, you have school tomorrow and it's past your bedtime. Go get ready for bed and I'll let you know when I'm leaving."

I heard him smirk behind me, "Alright, I get it."

I turned I held a spoon up to his face, "Don't you dare sass me sonny, now do what I say."

He held up his hands, "Okay mom, I'm going."

He disappeared into his room and I finished the dishes. I headed upstairs only to find Matt already asleep on his bed. I put a blanket over him, "Goodnight big guy, I'll see you tomorrow."

I let myself out and drove home.
