Winter Festival

After Sheila's funeral, Bonnie went to stay with her Aunt, but came back for the Winter Festival at the high school. My grandparents came back into town with Clark and he stuck close to Bonnie after I told him what happened to Sheila. In order to cheer everyone up, I enlisted Caroline's help in setting up a Secret Santa exchange.

She was ecstatic about it until Stefan got her and gave her a mini snow-globe. She complained nonstop at the Winter Festival. I got Matt and immediately presented him with an autographed football I had been saving since summer. After helping out a bit I left Clark with his Aunts and went to the Salvatore house. Stefan answered the door, "Tabitha, is everything okay? I was just about to head to the Winter Festival."

I nodded, "Oh yeah, go ahead. I just came to see Damon."

Stefan nodded, letting me pass him and enter the house, "He's upstairs in his room nursing his fifth bottle of bourbon. Be careful."

I smiled, "I will, Stefan, but I know he won't hurt me."

Stefan left and I took off my shoes and coat before heading upstairs. I walked down the hallway and peered into Damon's room to find him sitting on his bed looking down at Katherine's photo from 1864. I knocked on the door, "Hey, how are you doing?"

Without looking up he said, "I went to see Anna and Pearl. Anna knew Katherine wasn't in the tomb. Katherine knew where I was and didn't come find me."

I walked into the room and sat next to him, taking the bottle in his hand and taking a swig myself, "I'm sorry. I wish there was more I could say, but I know that nothing I say is gonna be enough." I laced my fingers in his and looked down at Katherine's hunting photo, "So, I'm gonna stay right here until you tell me to leave."

"Why stay? Why even come at all? Isn't your son back? You should be spending time with him."

I sighed, "Clark's with Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline. With no threat of tomb vampires, I know he's safe with them. Besides, you're my friend, Damon. And the worst thing for you right now is to be alone." I took another swig before handing Damon the bottle. He had to put down Katherine's photo in order to take the bottle from me. He took a drink and said, "Well this is boring. Ask me something to distract me."

I smirked, "Okay? During your 145 years as a vampire, where are some places you've traveled?"

Damon smirked, "I've, uh, been to New York, Chicago, New Orleans, and the nation's capital."

I smiled, "Anywhere on the west coast?"

"Never traveled that far. I pretty much stayed on the east coast."

I stood up, chuckling, "Would you be willing to go on a little trip with me?"

He looked up at me, "And where, pray tell, my partner in crime, will we be going?"

"I was thinking, for New Years, we could go to Vegas and stir up some mischief before school starts back up."

Damon stood up and spun me around, "That sounds amazing. When are we leaving?"

We danced for a little as I answered, "I'll book a flight the day after Christmas and we'll fly back the day after New Years. Does that sound okay with you?"

He dipped me, "Perfect." He brought me back up and kissed my forehead, "Thank you."

I hugged him, "You're welcome." My phone rang and I answered it, "Hello?"

Elena answered, "Hey, where are you? The fireworks are about to start and Clark wants to watch them with you."

I sighed, "I'm on my way." I hung up and looked at Damon, "Do you want to come with me to watch the Winter Festival fireworks?"

He grinned, "Let me get my coat and I'll meet you downstairs."

I walked downstairs and put on my coat and shoes and Damon whooshed us to the high school. We found Clark and everyone just as the fireworks started. I began to take a video, "Do you like the fireworks, Clark?"

He looked into the camera with wide eyes, "YEAH!"

I chuckled and pointed the camera elsewhere, "What about you, Salvatore brothers? Enjoying the fireworks?"

Stefan smirked, "Absolutely."

Damon answered, "Eh, I've seen better."

I scoffed, "Oh really? When?"

He looked into the camera, "Fourth of July, New York, 1986. Otherwise known as the biggest fireworks show in U.S. History."

I smiled, "Alright. Alright, show off. I get it. Don't be an ass."

Damon took the camera and pointed it at me asked, "Why are you recording anyway?"

I rolled my eyes, "It's called making memories Damon. It's something I can watch when I get older and relive."

He pointed the camera back at himself, "You sentimental humans."

I scoffed, wrestling the camera back, "Shut up, or I'll reconsider getting you a Christmas present."

"Oooh, scary."

I turned the camera off and watched the rest of the fireworks unable to stop smiling as I held onto Clark and leaned against Damon's arm. Once the fireworks were over, I drove Clark and my grandparents home. Thankfully Uncle Logan's house had been fully repaired so I wouldn't be spending Christmas at the Forbes residence.

After putting Clark to bed, I got on my laptop and began booking flights and hotel reservations for Damon and I for the week from the day after Christmas to New Years. I printed out the tickets and grabbed a bottle of bourbon out of the cupboard and tied the tickets to the bottle. I then put the bourbon in a box and sealed the box.

I had already ordered Stefan a new leather-bound journal, which should arrive in the next couple of days. I also spent some time on printing out the picture I had of Lexi, cropping myself out, of course. Along the same lines, I got Elena a new diary attached to a new blouse I sewed her.

For Caroline I had already sewn a new dress and even took the time to make one-of-a-kind matching earrings, necklace and bracelet set. For Bonnie, I actually dug into the deep web to find a bonafide witch talisman to help her focus, channel, and control her magic.

For Tyler & Matt, some new football gear and ties. I had also invited Matt to spend Christmas Eve and morning with Clark and me, so he wouldn't feel alone. For Jeremy I got a new sketchbook along with a variety of art materials.

I got the basics for my family members, including my stuck up and snarky cousins. And finally, for my beloved son, the remote control car he asked for and some soccer gear.

Needless to say, I was thoroughly prepared and excited for Christmas.
