Under Pressure

(Tabitha POV)

Stefan had been in the basement a couple of days and John learned his nephew, Jeremy, had been flirting with Anna and that, on top of his niece, Elena, dating Stefan, sent him into a rush to try and weasel the Gilbert device from Pearl.

I didn't approve of his methods, but he learned Pearl had given the device to Damon and now knowing we no longer needed her nor my deal with her to be upheld. John and I ambushed Pearl and Harper, killing them quickly and quietly. I admit that killing Harper was difficult after the kindness and respect he showed me during my dealings with Pearl, but I knew he would turn on me to protect Pearl and Anna.

After John updated Sheriff Forbes by phone, he turned to me, "Think you can get the Gilbert device?"

"I could, but Katherine's sending a bit of extra help so nothing gets linked back to me. We don't need Damon and Stefan united against us, we need them to offer it willingly once they believe the threat is out of the way and in order to do that, we need them united and under pressure against someone else."

"You've been in contact with Katherine?"

"We talk and don't worry, I'll make sure the Gilbert device gets to you." I noticed the hatred in his eyes and then something clicked in my mind and I asked, "Why do you hate vampires so much John, or is asking you useless since we both know the truth that we've both been in love and betrayed by one?"

John's eyes widened in shock and then fury quickly replaced it in his eyes, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh, you don't? There's a reason why Katherine decided to make a deal with me; I'm not stupid. The only thing that can truly bring out hatred and loathing such as ours is more than just being taught by elders to hate; our feelings are more personal." I then shrugged and walked away, smirking to myself, "But I understand if that conversation is better discussed at another time on another night. Have a Good Night, John."

Once I got home, I went upstairs to my room and called Bonnie, "Hey Bonnie."

"Tabs? Are you ok?"

"No, not really. I haven't really been okay since last year."

"I know what you mean. All this vampire supernatural stuff is doing my head in."

"Well actually, that's why I called."

"What do you mean?"

I took a deep breath and began to spin my lie, "Your ancestor, Emily, gave me once last piece of information before she destroyed her talisman. She spelled several devices created by the Gilberts; the ring Alaric wears, the vampire compass in Damon's possession; however Damon is in possession of another device, once that if used could eliminate all supernaturals in town. I am working with a few people who are going to put pressure on Damon. If he comes to you with the device all you have to do is pretend to de-spell it."

There was a long pause before Bonnie replied, "So you're telling me you have a plan to get rid of the Tomb Vampires and all I have to do is not de-spell the device if Damon comes to me?"

"Exactly Bonnie, I know it's hard to believe, but you have to trust me?"

"I trust you."

"Thank you Bonnie, I promise that soon our town will be safe again. Sleep well ok?"

"Okay, you too Tabs."

As Bonnie hung up, I strengthened my resolve. Once the rest of the Tomb Vampires were gone, all I had to do was take out Katherine. Suddenly I got a call from an unknown number, not Katherine, but decided to answer it, "This is Tabitha."

"Good Evening Miss Fell, my name is Isobel, but I'm sure you knew that as per your conversation with her a few nights ago." I froze, unable to speak as the woman on the other end continued, "I've arrived in Mystic Falls and while completing my mission to do as Katherine wants, I may do things that you will not find to your liking; all I ask is that you stay out of my way and act as I want you to in order to achieve our mutual goal."

I took a breath to collect myself, "Don't worry, I've already done my part and made sure the Salvatores won't come to me for help. I've all but isolated myself from them and, thanks to Katherine, have become quite the actress. Do what you have to do."

"Perfect. You know, Katherine was right about you. One of the few humans who actually has a brain. Haven't you, even for a moment, wanted to be a vampire?" I fell silent and Isobel continued, "I can do it, you know. . . Change you. You wouldn't have to worry about anyone hurting you or your son ever again. No man could ever make you feel weak ever again. You can turn your emotions off and never again feel your heart break into a thousand pieces because of betrayal. Personally, I think immortality would look wonderful on you."

I frowned and was shocked about the honesty in my response, "I can't say that I haven't thought about it, especially when Damon was half-heartedly courting me. I witnessed and experienced everything up close and personally at the time. If I were a vampire I'd have the power to protect my son and all of my descendants for generations to come. The possibilities, even after that, are endless; however, now is not the right time and in order for our plan to work perfectly, I need to be human, especially when John activates the device." I paused for a moment before asking, "Would you be willing to grant my request in the future?"

Isobel chuckled humorlessly, "Perhaps, it would be nice to have someone as well connected and intelligent to owe me a favor, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it and you have a way to contact me now. Now, do you know where I can find my husband at this time of night?"

I glanced over at the clock before answering, "Try the Mystic Grill, he's normally there drowning his sorrows in several glasses of alcohol, specifically bourbon ever since he began, unwillingly hanging out with Damon after failing to kill him."

Isobel chuckled again, "Yes, but Damon couldn't kill him either thanks to the ring I gave him. Thank you for the information, I'll call you if I need anything else. Goodnight." When she hung up I knew things were about to get serious. And that's when my brain realized John Gilbert wasn't really Elena's uncle, he was her father and the vampire John was betrayed by, was Isobel. Before going to bed that night I couldn't help but humorlessly laugh at my realization.

(Alaric POV)

As I walked to my car after seeing my wife again, she stopped me, held me against my car and threatened me, "You better tell Elena that I want to meet, or I'm going to start killing the citizens of this town, one by one, starting with your history student and the town's golden child, Tabitha Fell. Got it?"

She released me by throwing me onto the ground with the napkin upon which she wrote her message for me to deliver.
