We met up with Jen who was talking to her friends. "I returned her safely." Jack said. Jennifer laughed. "Did you guys have fun?" She asked. I nodded and looked at Jack. He smiled at me. "You guys can run along but I promised Boston we'd leave in about thirty minutes." Jen said. "Thank you." I said and hugged her. She smiled and I grabbed Jack's hand without even realizing it. After a few steps, I realized and let go. He grabbed my hand and held it, smiling at me.
Brandon ran over to us. "Jack, we need you on ASAP. They crowd is getting tired of my bass drifts." He said. "Alright. I'll be on in a sec. Can you get my guitar?" He asked. Brandon nodded and went to get it. "You should sing with us." Jack said out of nowhere. "What?" I asked. "Yeah, it'd be fun. You're really good." He added. "O-okay but I only know classic rock." I told him. "Thats fine. We're good with that. Do you know Somebody to Love?" He asked. I nodded. He lead me to the van by the stage. I tried to fix my hair in the rearview mirror. "Does it look okay?" I asked Jack. "Of course." He said. "Come on, we're on." Brandon said. Jack grabbed his guitar and my hand and we went up the stage. I felt so little on that stage. So many people and one of me. What if Jack was wrong? What if I did suck? I didn't know. Jack let go of my hand and Brandon set a microphone in front of me. He tapped his mic. "Hello everyone, sorry for the inconvenience. This is Alice and she will be singing Somebody to Love by Queen with us." He told them. They applauded. I was still nervous. Brandon and Jack started playing. Can anybody find me somebody to love? I started off. I looked at Jack and he smiled at me. Each morning I get up I die a little.. Can barely stand on my feet.. We sang together. The crowd started to sway. I relaxed a bit.
We finished the song and the crowd went crazy. I smiled and hugged Jack. "You were great!" He told me. I smiled. We bowed and went down to the van. "Wow, Alice. I didn't know you could sing like that." Brandon said and hugged me. I couldn't stop smiling. This was real. This was actually happening.
Claire showed up and hugged me. "You guys did great, especially you, Jack." She said and flashed a flirty grin. "Claire, what are you doing here?" Brandon asked. "Just came to congratulate a friend." She said and winked at me. "Anyway, Brandon. I'm thinking about taking you back, so try not to ruin your chances with me again." She said and walked off. "She's really cool when you guys aren't around." I told them. Jennifer came to the van. "You guys were great. Alice, you never told me you could sing like that." She said. I smiled. "Okay, we have about 15 minutes left. Meet me by the car, okay?" She asked. "Okay." I said and smiled.
Then I remembered again. Tomorrow, this would all be gone. I have to go back. "Um, Jack? Can I talk to you for a second?" Of asked him. He nodded and lead me to the front of the van. "What's wrong?" His eyes so full of question and worry. "I have to go back tomorrow and I'm not sure I'm going to see you for a long time." I told him, not looking into his eyes. He cleared his throat. "Sure you will. We can see each other any chance we get." He told me. I looked at him. His eyes were big and sparkling. "But how?" I asked. "We'll find out a way. All the best things work out in the end." He told me. A tear rolled down my cheek but I ignored it. "I live on Cedar Ridge ln. Ugliest trailer out there. Window in the back." I told him. He nodded and hugged me. "I should go now." I told him. He nodded. "See you soon, Alice." He said. "Bye, Jack." I called back and went to the car.
