WHEN THE NEWS OF A VIGILANTE BROKE ALL ACROSS NEW YORK, many didn't know what to think. Some saw him as a godsend, sent from above to protect the people of New York, while others felt he needed to be stopped-let the police handle the bad guys and say out of the way, that's what they were getting paid to do.When Alex walked into school, Spider-Man-the name the people had given the masked hero, was the topic of conversation.
There want a single Newspaper or News channel that wasn't covering a story about him. Alex walked to her locker and shoved her books and bag in before grabbing her gym clothes; today, she had to run a mile in class.
She hoped for a few rain showers, even though she hated the rain. "Alex!" It was Gwen. She walked in with her belongings as she beelined for Alex's locker.
"Have you seen the news? I mean, everyone is freaking out about this guy. Who do you think he is?" Gwen questioned, letting her shoulder rest on the lockers next to Alex.
"No clue," Alex had shut her locker and looked at Gwen. "Whoever he is, the people are freaking out. What does your dad think about him?" Gwen rolled her eyes.
Her dad, the police captain-George Stacy, didn't have good things to say about him. "He's been going to work earlier than before. My dad says he's a problem. The police departments have been talking about it all morning. They even have extra police out on the streets."
Alex didn't think Spider-Man was terrible. She thought he was the coolest thing to come out of the city. He was a protector. He could do things ordinary people like her and everyone else couldn't. He was awesome, "Your dads saying that now. Wait till it's one of his kids. Or, god forbid, his wife." Alex stated bluntly.
As she held her gym clothes in her hand and looked at the ticking clock on the wall before heading out to the track, Gwen stopped her. "Hey, my moms making Braziano. I don't know if you've ever had it, but I was wondering if you want to come for dinner? You could invite people too. If he wasn't to join." Gwen smiled.
"Yeah, sure, Gwen. That would be nice. I'm sure my parents won't mind. They're both working late." After they said their goodbyes, Alex headed to her Gym period.
The sun was beaming down on everyone outside when she got over to the track, and one of her coaches blew their whistle. Everyone took off. Alex was never the most athletic, but she wasn't out of shape. She was never used to this much running, either.
Every Thursday, the class had to run a mile. When Alex looked up, she saw Peter sitting in the nosebleed of the bleachers. He had a slight smile on his face as he watched her run.
Alex slowed down. She couldn't help but smile at him.
When she looked around to find that her coach was engrossed in a conversation, she ran to the bleaches towards Peter. She wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly. When she pulled back and grinned at him, Peter mirrored her same grin-his dimples popping out.
"Hi," She said in almost a high-pitched voice. She didn't realize how happy she was to see him.
"Hey, How's it going with track?" Peter asked, straightening his posture as he looked at her.
"It's going...Where have you been?" Peter had once again gone MIA a few times after his uncle had passed away, which for Alex was wholly understandable, but that didn't stop her from missing him.
"I've been around.." Peter trailed off. When Alex took a closer look at his face, she could see a bruise around his eye, and along with his lip, she gently grabbed his face and examined it.
"Alex, what are you?"-
"Jesus, Pete, what happened to your face?" She gasped. Peter tried to look anywhere but at her. He couldn't tell her. He couldn't tell her who he was or what she was doing.
She could flip, and it was too dangerous for her.
So he did what he did best. He played dumb. "What? What are you talking about?" Alex squinted her eyes at him.
"Your eye Pete, it looks bruised. Did Flash do something?" Alex rose from her seat, but Peter grabbed her by the waist and sat her back down.
"No, Alex, Flash didn't do anything. Maybe I got a rash. Don't worry, I'm fine. You know I missed you. I'm sorry again for"-
"Don't. Don't apologize." She stroked his cheek softly as she looked at him. His pupils were dilated slightly. It felt like it was just the two of them together-nobody but them.
Peter wanted to kiss her. Her lips were so close to his that they almost ghosted over his, but when Alex pulled back, he knew it wouldn't be the right time to do it.
"Do you like branzino?" Alex whispered, "Gwen invited me over with her parents, and she told me I could invite you. I mean, if you want...Of course, you don't have to,"
Peter chuckled. "It's cute when you ramble, you know. Yeah I'll be there." Peter tucked a strand of hair behind her. Alex blushed profusely before playfully punching him on the shoulder.
"Shut up, Parker!" She laughed, "I'll see you tonight. My parents are working late, and they'll likely give me the green like to go over to Gwen's."
Peter watched as she left to go back to the track field. Peter couldn't shake the smile on his face as he looked at Alex. He was smitten by her. He didn't know what it was about her.
Maybe it's the way she smiled or the way she giggled, or perhaps the fact that she called him Pete.
All he knew was that he was in love with her, and nothing would change that, not even his new life as Spider-Man.
