ONE YEAR PASSED, AND PETER PARKER WAS A COLLEGE STUDENT. After enrolling at Empire State University and majoring in Biochemistry, he found that going on with life was bearable but not the same. Gwen and Peter often kept in touch, speaking regularly. They knew Alex would kill them if they stopped talking or hanging out with each other. Peter found a little photography job at the Daily Bugle, a small newspapering company, the pay was good, and he found his boss-J. Jonah Jameson, to be a little high-strung.
He would often check on his Aunt to see how she was doing, with her saying he didn't need to worry about her-that she was okay.
Alex's parents stayed right here and in New York. Alex was buried here. They didn't want to return to California, knowing she was resting there. They ended up giving Peter a few of her pictures and things that would mean a lot to him.
He stopped being Spider-Man. For a long and harsh year, New York suffered, the crime rate went up, and everyone lived in fear. Their symbol of hope was gone.
Peter found it better when he kept his focus on his school books and not crime. Being Spider-Man brought back painful memories that he'd instead not remember. Every day he found that Alex was still the one thing on his mind.
He often wondered what she would do if she were still here. The sad reality was she didn't get to live out her dreams or do the things she wanted to do.
He would almost see her everywhere he went. On the way to work, there was a girl who bumped right into him with all of her things spilling to the ground. "I am so sorry. I'm in a bit of a rush."
They both kneeled and began to pick up her stuff. She wore black flats with formal slacks and a white blouse.
Her hair was a deep red, almost to the point it looked copper orange with bright blue eyes. "You're in my Ap calculus class?" He stated.
"Yeah...Yeah, I am. Again I'm sorry about that." She apologized.
"No, it's fine. It happens to the best of us." She smiled at him, a dimple popping out of her cheek. "I've gotta go...I'm already late."
He watched as she walked away, and he opened his mouth to ask, "Hey! What's your name?" She turned around, her red hair cascading down her back as she looked at him.
"Mary-Jane. Mary-Jane Watson. You?"
"Peter Parker, I'll see you in class, Mary-Jane."
"Sure, Peter Parker." Peter made his way to work. He talked with Betty Bryant before being called into Mr. Jameson's office. When he sat in front of his boss, he never knew what was bound to come out of his mouth, but what he said next was never expected.
"Parker! I want you to try and get me some pictures of Spider-Man. It'll make both of us a lot of cash, he's been gone for sometime and I think it's about time the city sees the masked vigilante's return."
Peter sat stunned. There was now way he was putting the suit back on just for a couple of photos, "I don't know where he is sir. Nobody does."
Jameson has a cigar hanging out the side of his mouth. "Well Parker. Find him, because newspapers aren't selling anymore. The city wants Spider-Man."
