The alarm from my phone on the nightstand startled me as the morning came. The hair on top my head felt like an unruly mess as I slid my fingers through the front. Looking across the very wooden paneled room, Alex was still sleeping. Her feet peeked out from under the bottom of the blanket. She looked so quiet as she slept. When in reality she was a beacon of yapping her chomps.
I looked outside the window of my side of the room and saw the tree that was a matter of ways a way and a tire swing hung on its huge limb. The wind swung the tire back and forth making it rock side to side as if a child was really swinging from it. The autumn air made the leaves begin to change colors and leaves fell to the dirt covering the land before the house.
The house had a long drive way but it wasn't too far from the main street. Maybe a half of a mile at most. The dark wood paneled walls in our room reminded me of the cabin I had stayed at when I was younger with my mom and dad plus my two really older brothers. Stefan and Mike.
Stefan was in his late twenties just coming out of medical school now. He looked a lot like my mom. Sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. Then, Mike was more of a "letdown" to my parents. He dropped out of high school as soon as he turned 18 and moved in with a few of his drinking buddies. He looked a lot like me and my dad. Pale skin and brown hair and brown eyes. I had my mother's blue eyes though. They weren't remarkably blue like most people with blue eyes, they were more of a grayish color. But I hadn't seen Mike in a few years. He kept to himself. Sometimes I'd get a text from him asking how I was. But I hadn't seen him. Not even a picture. He must have been at least 25 now.
I sighed with the thought of my brothers not really caring about me. Stefan was more into his fiance and the life they were going to have. My two brothers left me to live with our anal, strict parents.
I couldn't believe it when they said they were sending me here for my senior year. They would hardly let me out of the house to hang with friends much less live with a complete stranger.
I shook my head from the thought and headed across the hall to the shower. The very white bathroom reminded me of something out of a catalog in a Martha Stewart magazine. I turned on the hot water and let it heat up for a minute as I looked in the mirror at my dark circled eyes. I really needed to sleep better. These shadowed bags are doing nothing for my already average face.
Peeling my shirt over my shoulders, I let it drop to the ground along with my panties. The hot water steamed up the room quick and I jumped in letting it confort me in a smoldering embrace.
After washing my hair I dried it and put some mascara on. My cheeks were so fair skinned I decided to put on some foundation. Hopefully it would help my dark circles as well.
"Callie?" Alaric knocked on the door to the bathroom I had locked. I fumbled with the brush I was holding and opened the door. I grinned up at him as he spoke again. "I was going to show you two girls the town today."
"Oh great!" I said over enthusiasticly. He probably saw right through my act.
"Yeah, I know you saw a bit of it when the two of you came in the taxi from the airport, but I wanted to give you a personal tour through my favorite shops and places to eat."
"Sounds amazing!" I smiled leaning against the door. Whem I realized he was waiting on another comment I searched for what else I had to do. Then I realized I was still in my towel from the shower. Oh wow. My cheeks must have become violently red. "I-ugh-I should be ready in ten minutes!" I closed the door and listened for his footsteps.
"Ok, I'll be downstairs with breakfast."
"Ok," I answered back with my ear to the wooden door. It was the only source of color in the modern bathroom. Well, besides the colorful shampoo bottles.
