I took the car to school the next day with Alex driving in the seat next to me. We had not spoken since she found out what I had done to myself. The car smelled of Harry still and I looked in the backseat once we pulled out of the driveway, his jacket still lay there folded in half with the arms touching the floor. I need to burn it. I need to burn everything that reminded me of him.
Alex parked the car after the short drive to the high school. It was too early for school and too early to be riduculed by children that were so behind in their own struggles that they shouldn't be worried about mine.
She shut the door to her side and opened the trunk grabbing her bookbag and heading for the front door, without me. I ran my shaking fingers over my face and closed my eyes hoping for the best but expecting the worst. The door opened to my right and my heart began racing as I got my bookbag and headed the same way Alex had been a moment ago.
Keep calm, Callie. No one really cares about you and Harry. Except for the group of freshmen girls huddled by the trash can that are taking turns peeking at me. Great.
"Nice of you to show up to school today! I'm guessing Harry got tired of you? Or was it because he was sick of you cheating on him with his brothers," Kristen yelled towards me with her group of friends laughing with her. I noticed Logan in the bunch, ducking his head down.
Traitor.
I pulled the straps tighter over my shoulders and went into the school building. Isn't this the place where I'm supposed to be safe? How can I be more afraid of coming here and facing the demons that are walking the hall than I am afraid of my own family back in Florida and the potential struggles there? I opened the locker next to my first period. I shoved a few books in there and noticed the white slip of paper laying at the bottom. I usually didn't leave homework in my locker? I picked it up and shoved it in my bookbag.
"Can you believe Callie and Harry broke up?" I heard someone trying to whisper behind me.
"I know! I thought they were going to have kids one day and be the new face of the town."
"I heard that she was caught in the woods with Logan and they were making out, so Harry left her and left town," the same girl said.
I slammed my locker shut making the whole hallway eye me. My raging eyes found the whispering girls and I couldn't help what came out of my mouth, "Why don't you get the fuck out of my life? You two obviously need to work on yourselves and your appearances before you should ever be gossiping rumors that aren't fucking true!"
I ran into my classroom as quick as I could and then I noticed my science teacher looking at me over his glasses. Thankfully, I was the only student in the classroom sitting at the lab tables and I could defend myself to him.
"They were talking about me..." I ran my hand up my arm feeling a chilling sensation.
"Different word choice next time..." he went back to writing things on the white board.
"Yes sir," I diverted eye contact to the windows outside.
The world seemed to be going slower and slower as each class period went on and then I finally got to lunch. I held my daily apple in my hand as I looked around the room filled with the entire school. Two weeks left and I'm gone. I'll never have to see these people again.
The room was dull with white walls and students lurking to this table and that with black trays of school lunch. I was walking to my normal spot where the Styles' sat and then I remembered I couldn't dare sit with them. They were all liars and backstabbing friends.
Charles and I caught each other's attention and then I saw Sabrina smack him in the arm as he fled his eye contact away from me. My throat choked on the massive lump and I turned to go roam the halls instead. If I got caught I would say I was just going to make up a test.
