This is so cringey. Enjoy :)

Jade's POV
I'm at Cat's house lying on her bed next to her. I'm painting my nails while she cuddles her stuffed giraffe and watches cartoons.

I finish painting the nails on both my hands and sit back against the headboard of the bed.

"You're being quiet." I say and Cat jumps a little at the break in the silence.

"Huh?" Cat asks, turning slightly to look back at me.

"Why are you being quiet?" I ask.

"I'm not." Cat says quietly.

"What's going on with you?" I ask, frowning slightly.

"Nothing Jadey." Cat says.

"You've hardly spoken to me these last few weeks." I confront her.

"That's not true! Just today I sat by you in math." Cat tries to defend herself.

"Only because Lane told our teacher you need help catching up." I say.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Cat asks.

"I don't care how good you are at solving equations, I just wanna know what's up." I say.

"My brother told a good joke about 'what's up'." Cat says.

"Great." I roll my eyes.

"Wanna hear?" Cat asks.

"No, I-" she interrupts me.

"So, you say what's up." Cat starts.

"Cat I wanna know what's up with you." I say.

"And then you say, the sky!" Cat finishes and laughs.

"Why are you being weirder than normal?" I ask.

"Get it? Because the sky is up but you ask someone what's up? Hehehehe!" Cat giggles.

"Cat!" I yell.

"Ah!" Cat shrieks.

"What is going on with you?" I ask sternly.

"Nothing." Cat pouts.

"Don't pout." I demand.

"Why not?" She asks, continuing to pout.

"It's not cute." I say.

"I learned something about you in my psychology class today." Cat says.

"About me?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah. People like you say the opposite of what they're actually thinking." Cat explains.

"People like me?" I ask.

"Uh huh. It's a defence mechanism." Cat says.

"Defence from what?" I narrow my eyes.

"I dunno. Fear of rejection?" Cat shrugs. "Hey, you wanna watch Cinderella?!"

"What exactly would I be scared of being rejected from?" I ask sternly.

"Your dad? The cute guy at the piercing place who did your brow piercing? Your brother? Beck..." Cat trails off.

I jump on top of Cat and she shrieks.

"I am not, I repeat, NOT scared of being rejected by Beck." I growl.

"Okay okay! I just thought because of the whole nose picking thing on pear maps." Cat says.

"There was no nose picking thing!" I yell.

"Fine okay alright there wasn't!" Cat squeaks.

"Good." I stare at her before slowly moving off her.
