Jay's POV Continued:

I quietly hauled my body to the front door of the penthouse.

I never looked back not even for one millisecond.
I pulled the door as silently as I could with the door handle down, so it wouldn't click when the door completely closed.

As I finally closed them both, there was a silence that encompassed the vicinity.

I let out all of the air that I kept in my lungs and I anxiously moved the cart across to the other penthouse entrance.

Please let this one be empty.

I opened it, and I put a door stopper on the ground to hold it open.

I walked in, completed a proper sweep, and made sure every room was empty before I proceeded.

I immediately saw trash and I grabbed it... but my thoughts interrupted me.

My boss was in a room full of men in suits... there were drugs and money in suitcases...

I've seen thousands of mobster and mafia movies and it doesn't take rocket science to analyze what I saw.

My boss is pushing weight through his hotel... he's gotta be.

As I walked the trash towards the door, I stopped in my tracks.

I heard voices and footsteps outside the door.

"Pleasure doing business." I heard my boss' vivid voice say from outside in the hallway.

I stayed silent as I heard the elevator doors open. I heard everyone step on and the door closed.

After a few more seconds, I waited until I heard complete silence again.

I exhaled as I turned around to walk deeper into the penthouse. I need a moment to collect myself.

I set the trash can down as I placed both of my hands on a bar. I looked down at my feet and I took deep breaths to regulate my pulse.

I can't believe I almost got caught eavesdropping on a drug deal... on my first day at that. My boss and his acquaintances would've probably dealt with me in ways I don't even wanna imagine. This is not the time to make enemies.

I knew it was something about him that was intimidating, yet intriguing. Now, it explains everything.

As I gathered my thoughts, I picked up the trash can.

When I turned around, my skeleton almost jumped out of my skin.

I held a hand over my heart as it pounded rapidly inside of my chest cavity.

His eyes were glued to my frame and every intrinsic move I made. I didn't even hear him come in.

I couldn't form any words.

"You're the one that came late this morning." He stated as he slowly walked towards me while pulling at his chin hair.

"I-It won't happen again Mr. Brown." I said as he stopped walking. Such a timid moment... I don't know what he's gonna do.

"Your name..." He said awaiting my answer.

"Jayde..."

He scratched at his beard hair, looked down, and sighed.

"Jayde... one thing to know about while working at my hotel is that you should always be on ten. Don't let your guard down. Things can get hectic pretty fast." He said walking towards me again. One hand was in his pocket, his feet pointed inward a bit, but his stride was impeccable. His shoulders stood tall and his aura demanded domination.
